    IRVING, Texas - The Cowboys players won't hold their first meeting with interim head coach Jason Garrett until Wednesday morning.

    Monday, they were informed of the team's future. And they said good-bye to the past.

    Wade Phillips spoke briefly to the players on the day of his dismissal and received a standing ovation as he exited. Jerry Jones also gave a "brief but direct" speech on the organization's new direction and its standards, tight end Jason Witten said.

    "There was a lot of emotion wrapped up in just a few brief moments," Witten said Tuesday. "Everything wrapped up quick.

    "I think the players were disappointed because it got to this point. And Jerry made that clear, that a lot of times the players dictate what happens to the coach by the way we play."
