Is Cromartie a Nnmadi Fallback Plan?

    Name: Antonio Cromartie
    Position: Cornerback
    College: Florida State
    Height/Weight: 6-2/211
    Age: 27

    NFL Experience: 5 seasons

Availability: Like many free agents in this process, Cromartie's status will change depending on the result of the lockout resolution, whenever that might be. If free agency reverts back to four years, which will likely happen if a new salary-capped structure is implemented, Cromartie would then become unrestricted. However, if the 2010 rules are re-applied with no cap in place, Cromartie would be a restricted free agent. And the Jets have already placed the highest-available tender on him, which would give the team a first- and third-round pick if he signs with a new club.

What He Brings: Although he might be the second-best cornerback on the Jets roster, Cromartie is still considered by many as a Top-10 corner in the league. Playing opposite of Darrelle Revis has likely given Cromartie some opportunities to shine, but he's taken advantage. His body frame looks more like a safety, but his coverage and ball-hawking skills are certainly that of a corner. Cromartie has 18 career interceptions - all in the last four seasons - including 10 in 2007 alone with the Chargers. He's also a fine return specialist, evident by his crucial kickoff return in the fourth quarter against the Colts last season, which set up the Jets' game-winning field goal to advance them past the wild-card round...

He doesn't like to tackle... You can't have TWO corners afraid of contact, :laugh2:

Is Nnamdi Only New CB Option?
Posted by nickeatman at 5/20/2011 11:28 AM CDT on truebluefanclub.com

While it seems like the speculation of the Cowboys at least trying to land Raiders CB Nnamdi Asomugha is picking up some steam, it begs the question for me if he’s the only real option the Cowboys will consider at that position.

If the Cowboys are indeed willing to shell out some big bucks for a guy like that, then obviously there is a feeling here that an upgrade is needed. Now I know not every available corner out there is going to be better than Terence Newman. Clearly, Asomugha would be, even at a much higher price.

But what about the second-best guy? That’s what I profiled Jets CB Antonio Cromartie in Friday’s edition of the Free-Agent Watch...

Yeah but we are sitting with 33 year old Newman, when we drafted him we knew he would be old quick. I don't figure they would play next year much different as far as results. Most TNew lovers just don't realize how old he really is in football terms.

He is our #1 CB currently, but we have to get rid of him soon or make him #2, maybe not this year, but it has to be done.

Liked Cromartie's potential as a young player early on during his days in San Diege. He's proven to be a punk, have a bad attitude and gutless on the field.

    Asomugha > Newman > Cromartie

This plus 100. Is Dallas looking for an overpaid third CB? Jenkins in 2009 was better than Cromartie.

I keep wondering if there is anyone these morons like Eatman think the boys WILL NOT GO AFTER?

The only idiots talking about getting a high priced CB are gomers like eatman and some numbies here.

This isn't 2009. Jenkins still has to comeback from last year, and we can't just assume he will. Our pass defense was horrible last year, and although I hope Rob can magically turn it around, I also know he need help.

TNew and Jenkins could get better this year, we do know we have to replace TNew sooner rather than later. Do we really think we can start Jenkins and Scandrick if we had to cut TNew. I hope not.

Cromartie as a player is pretty damn good especially against big receivers. His character stinks tho.
Maybe with Pacman and Talib.... shut down secondary

    (1) If Tnew is cut, it won't be for Cromartie.
    (2) I'd take Jenkins over Cromartie. This year.

only way I would want Cromartie is to take over for Scandrick/Jenkins. Newman imo is still the better cover corner of the two.
