IRVING, Texas - Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones badly wanted those three points before David Buehler missed a 34-yard field goal attempt in last Sunday's 13-7 loss to the Washington Redskins.

But he doesn't want a new kicker.

Jones said Monday that Buehler's job security has "a lot of rope" as he enters the second regular-season place-kicking duties of his career Sunday against the Chicago Bears. The NFL's touchback leader last year as a rookie kickoff specialist, Buehler earned the full-time kicking job by making 10 of 11 preseason attempts, including 4-of-4 and the winning 31-yarder in the exhibition finale against the Miami Dolphins.

That miss was big, he has a lot of rope until he misses another similar kick then that rope is going to get shorter.

The miss was so early in the game that it had little consequence in the overall scheme of things. Now, the Choice fumble, that's another matter entirely! :bang2:

All kickers miss but 34 yards should be a chip shot for an NFL kicker. And combined with the fact that he wasn't kicking FG's last year and this will be his first year with the job..well to me it was a big fail on his part. That kick was important. Real important.

I've been thinking that myself for a few years.

Jerry has been in "positive" mode all week.
