IRVING, Texas -- It's probably the furthest thing from Jason Wttien's mind this week, knowing he must contribute even more with Miles Austin (hamstring) sidelined. But the Cowboys' Pro Bowl tight end is chasing more history this Sunday.

Witten needs two catches against the Bills to pass Ozzie Newsome (662) for third-most by a tight end in NFL history. Tony Gonzalez (1,108) and Shannon Sharpe (815) rank first and second, respectively.

I said a while back it’s kind of surreal to think about passing a guy like that," Witten said via conference call Monday. "Until Tony came along he was the greatest tight end. He and John Mackey were the staples of what this position is all about. It will be special to be able to do that, but, at the same time, you so intent on winning games that you don’t have time to look back at it. But it will be surreal for me...

I find it really cool that Jason knows the History of his position.

Hos, that was almost exactly my thought when I read this. We Cowboys' fans are lucky we've got him.

I agree. It's amazing we (and the entire NFL) left him on the table in the 2nd round to go after that Center.

It's our luck (and lack of foresight from the rest of the NFL) that we got him in the 3rd round.
