I'm happy we won and the defense was outstanding but our offense didn't change at all.

Sure we ran the zone. That is good long term. We even saw some new formations.

Overall though the same philosiphies that cause us to play sloppy football were actually increased in the offense.

    For instance..

We go no huddle and then we still use up every second of the playclock making adjustments and giving the defense every opportunity to get set and let them get alligned. Also it's difficult for our own players being in their stance for so long which cause them to jump offsides.

We still let defenses dictate what we do. I absolutely hate it and i'm emberrassed for Dez Bryant. He ends up looking like a overrated player today because of these philiosiphies.

I did not see 1 bigtime receiver get completely whiped out of a game because a defense played two deep.

Also, Tony, please don't point at the receiver that you're adjusting his route on and throw it to him 100% of the time.

The Cowboys need tempo and pace. They need to play with speed. Don't let the defense have all day to line up while we make adjustments. Pace and Urgency is all this offense needs. Nothing has changed on that side of the ball and it will ultimately be our downfall because of all of the sloppy play that comes with that style.

It will be like this as long as Garrett is here, changing the play caller did nothing. Same old chinese firedrill.

I hate to tell you 17andcounting but the pace issues last night were not on Garrett, they would have been on Romo. If you actually watched the game you would know that they broke the huddle with plenty of time left and then we shouted and pointed until we almost got delay of game penalties. But you know, I don't remember a single delay of game penalty, do you?

Of course, nothing is ever Jasons fault. Its pretty obvious that Romo has been coached to run the playclock down, but you can conveniently pass that off to Callahan now like the past 6 years never happened.

It's the whole philosiphy. It's awful and will ultimately be our downfall.

Love the pistol and I love the zone but the pace of the offense just helps the defense and causes our players to have to think too much and it leads to sloppy football.

I would like to see more speed on the field and more urgency in the huddle. It seems like the Cowboys are sleepwalking during the early part of the playclock and running in quick sand after the snap most of the time.

The snaps were coming off much quicker than they have in the past. We had a few times where we waited to the last second and that is on Romo. The INT was a perfect example. Williams ran the wrong route, but it didn't help that Romo changed his mind and audibled at the very last second. He gave a hand signal and expected Williams to understand it, but he didn't. I can understand why Williams didn't diagnose what Romo was trying to tell him and Romo should have called timeout anyway. I think if anything, it's that very last second audible that hurts Romo and offense more than anything. I think if he can eliminate those it would dramatically improve the offense.

I actually liked the play calling. Romo struggles most when teams play a deep Cover 2 or Cover 4 against him, forcing him to beat them underneath and for the run game to help him out. I think the G-Men saw the struggles with the running game in preseason and knew they had to contain Dez, so they decided to play the safeties way back and keep everything in front of them.

I think Romo just wasn't quite used to the speed given it was the first real game of the year. But, we ran the ball moderately okay with Bernie at RG. We only had 1 pick. And we minimized the pre-snap penalties. We had 2 sacks, but 1 of them was on Romo. And again, this is the ballyhooed Giants D-Line. It will be interesting to see what we can do once Waters gets in at RG.

The Cowboys offense is still missing a consistent run game. Murray collected a good number of yards, but a lot of them came after initial early contact. I'd hate to see him become another Marion Barber, shortening his career and risking injury by making collisions happen. Without that kind of consistency, the offense isn't exactly one-dimensional -- more like 1 1/2 dimensional -- but still needs better balance.

Maybe Waters will make a real difference in the run effort, but his age and layoff time make for long odds. And the defense isn't going to put 14 points on the board every week. I'm certainly happy with the win -- especially over the Giants and especially breaking the Eli-in-Arlington curse -- but there seem to be dark clouds on the horizon.

I was actually ok with the playcalling as well. Can't always say that.

I just think all of the adjusting and lack of pace in the offense hurts us and we could absolutely overwhelm teams if we played faster.

When you watch New Englad you don't see all of these crazy adjustments. Especially on run plays. We don't need to go no huddle, make 500 adjustments, and then run it.

Get up there and just run the stupid ball.

Find some mismatches for Dez. Move him around a little instead of letting defenses completely dictate him.

I see a lot of potential but i've seen it for years. Garrett, Bill, and Romo just don't know how to get the most out of this offense.

I agree with some of your points about how the offense didn't dictate enough to the defense. I also disagree that this will continue however.

I believe we have to give the Giants some credit here. There defense IS actually a lot better this year.

They have their full complement of cb's back and Terrel Thomas is a good player. There front four is also different that it ever has been as they have a bunch of beef up front now. Shaun Rodgers is a heck of a pickup, that guy is just a bull. By playing the safety's back and controlling the run game with their front 6 or 7, they took a lot of the effectiveness out of our 12 package.

We will not have this every week and even if we did, we will get better on offense as guys like Dunbar return and Williams, Escobar, and Hannah get better acclimated to this offense and league.

I would definitely try not to draw any conclusions from week 1, most of what happened in week 1 around the league is no where near what will actually happen during the year. It is like that every year...

I don't know if Waters can be worse than Bernie. To Bernie's credit, he didn't make many mental gaffes. But the guy either can't stay on his feet or just gets bulldozed.

I just truly do not believe this offense fits Romo or Romo fits this offense, whatever way you want to put it. I've said it a few times since last night and I've thought it for years, but Romo is a risk taking gunslinger and as mad as I've gotten at the guy for interceptions that are a result of his style, I'd still rather let him be who he is then force him to play a certain way. He's a freelancing gunslinger.

My god 1 fricken game. LOL Coming her you would think Dallas lost the game and was heading for a 0-16 season.

It's easy to draw conclusions when you've seen the same things for several years now. I know that this offense isn't very player friendly and it holds this particular team back.

We need to be a high powered offense.

It's like College football. We need to play like a big 12 team because that is the type of players we have. We aren't a smash mouth, SEC style team, like the 9ers. We try to be like New England with our personnel but make 500 more adjustments like the Bronco's.

It's just a bad fit for our team and the penalties and mistakes will just always be there.

Sorry Doomsday but it's the same thing we've seen for years. We didn't see any change except for the pistol formation, more zone running, and a no huddle that kept Defensive personnel on the field but didn't increase the pace.

Let's be honest and open, the defense gifted the offense 3 turnovers in the 1st half. When a defense can get 3 turnovers, the offense *MUST*MUST*MUST* be able to put up more than 3 points off of those 3 turnvoers. It was not impressive at all.

Dallas had 5 penalties that is not a lot. Dallas has things to work on but they are throwing out the entire offense that is stupid.

Exactly. Romo IS a freelancing gunslinger and we have him trying to imitate the best drop back passers in the league in a offense that is way too slow.

This Offense is designed for a Carson Palmer, Sam Bradford, or someone like that.

We don't have the power to play this slow. We need to overwhelm teams with pace.

It was funny because even NBC did not do it's usual stats between plays because the Cowboys were going into the hurry up, well the Cowboys hurry up version was snapping the ball at between 3 and 5 seconds left on the play clock, so NBC was like OK then. Either were not running it correctly or it is not a hurry up, because the Giants were still able to make their normal subsititions. I hope this improves because there did not seem to be a rhythm to the offense last night.
