    Cowboys players say head coach Jason Garrett is in 'tough position' during labor dispute

    On Sundays in the fall, Jason Garrett stands on the periphery of the playing field. He patrols the sidelines, rarely venturing away from them when the game is taking place. In an ideal world, that's where he would choose to remain during the labor dispute between the players and owners that has drawn the NFL into hibernation.

    But last week Garrett's hand was forced, days after the NFL Coaches Association filed an amicus brief in support of the players' attempt to lift the lockout imposed by the owners. That's when Garrett and the Cowboys' coaching staff sent a letter to the organization stating that it disagreed with premise of the filing.

    "We did not provide [NFLCA executive director] Larry Kennan with the authority to file such brief on our behalf and do not agree with the brief's position," the letter said. "Like everyone involved in the NFL, we are looking forward to a new CBA and the start of the 2011 NFL season."
