Cowboys have begun implementing contingency plan in wake of injury to Bill Nagy

    By Rainer Sabin / Reporter

...With Nagy sidelined and Kevin Kowalski on the physically unable to perform list with his own ankle injury, the Cowboys have only one healthy center who has played in an NFL game. That man is Phil Costa and while the Cowboys are not in dire straits because he is their starter, they are scrambling for backups who can handle the repetitions with reserves.

“Sometimes that can be problematic, especially during training camp,” Garrett acknowledged

But the Cowboys have no other choice. Rookie guard Harland Gunn worked with the second team, guard David Arkin practiced a few snaps and the Cowboys began training tackle Tyrone Novikoff and guard Ronald Leary to play center.

“Next man’s up,” Cowboys offensive line coach Bill Callahan said. “We just keep rolling them in…But I have great faith and trust in our players to adapt to adverse situations.”
