News: DMN: Jerry Jones says Austin, Ratliff won’t be salary cap casualties

    INDIANAPOLIS – A day after Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said he “absolutely” expects defensive tackle Jay Ratliff to be on the 2013 team, owner Jerry Jones stated he anticipates receiver Miles Austin to be right there alongside him.

    “I think Miles is certainly very much in our plans,” Jones said.

    There have been speculative reports that Austin could be cut for financial reasons in the near future. The Cowboys, who are roughly $20 million over the NFL’s payroll ceiling, need to get under it by a March 12 deadline and Austin’s 2013 salary cap number is $8.3 million.

    But Jones said Austin and Ratliff won’t be casualties of the salary cap.
