Alex Barron returned to the practice field for the first time since the Aug. 8 Hall of Fame Game, and the plan is for him to start Saturday against Houston at right tackle.

Before the injury, Barron took his turn at left tackle behind Doug Free. But with Marc Colombo recovering from knee surgery, the Cowboys want to look at him at right tackle. Robert Brewster earned praise from the coaches for his work against San Diego last week, but during Monday's walkthrough he split time between right and left tackle.

Barron started at right tackle in 2005-06 and 2008 in St. Louis.

I know the team needs to see what Alex has, but I'd rather see more of Brewster and Young.

At what position? Is that based on his play in St. Louis?

I think Barron could be the starting RT in Dallas honestly... It's time to cut Colombo loose in my opinion.

Based on what? The fact that the worst team in the NFL decided they didn't need him? The fact that he got beat pretty bad the one preseason game he played in? Face it, there is a reason the Rams let him go in exchange for a known bust like Carpenter.

Just kind of a lazy, lackadaisical one.

OK, I know some people are down on Colombo, but seriously?

St. Louis got rid of him because he was a bust as a starter, and you want to start him? I'm not even sure he should make this team as a backup ... and now that he's apparently out again, we won't get to see if he should for at least another week.

Would have been nice to see him against Houston's starters, too, to see if he's really made any progress under Houck.

I don't know about Barron but Brewster is going to be a stud.

The coaches are showing a lot of confidence in him by playing him on both sides. This shows that he is a quick study and have equal amount of power and good feet. I can't wait to see more.

I saw an interview w/ Brewster and I was impressed. I think he will be a starter somewhere on our line soon.

Exactly. Davis was considered something of an underacheiver, but he was still a good O-lineman whose downfall with the Cards was simply that his contract was ending and his market value was higher than they felt they could afford. If we had to trade for Davis, like we did with Barron, there is no way in Hell we could have done it for the price of a failure backup LB who never even threatened to compete for a starting role.

actually they didn't. he was a pro bowl alternate in several seasons in Az. He never went but he would have if there was an injury. He did that at several different positions. That isn't a bust.

I hope he has a great game and becomes a starter--if he does not, we have other pieces--everyone is panicking about our OL depth but i'm excited that we are talking about new starters and whether to keep 10 OLinemen or not
