With a cast covering his right hand and wrist, Dallas Cowboys rookie running back Joseph Randle did his best to fill plastic bags with food at the North Texas Food Bank on Wednesday.

The fifth-round pick out of Oklahoma State has been limited during organized team activities because of thumb surgery. During the sessions open to the media, Randle has mostly been working on conditioning drills off to the side.

While that will continue next week during minicamp, Randle said he expects to have his cast off in two weeks and should be a full participant in training camp next month.

One thing Randle can still do despite wearing a cast is study his new playbook, the thing he notes as being the biggest difference between college and the NFL. And Randle says he hasn’t stopped studying since he received it.

“Learning the playbook is always first,” Randle said. “The plays are a little more complex than my old offense, but I’ll pick up on it. It’ll be good.”
