With the news that Cowboys backup quarterback Jon Kitna has informed team officials that he will retire, what's the next move for Dallas in filling a roster spot at quarterback?

these quarterbacks could be options if the Cowboys decide to sign a veteran backup for Romo:

    • Charlie Batch, Pittsburgh
    • Jason Campbell, Oakland
    • David Carr, NY Giants
    • A.J. Feeley, St. Louis
    • Matt Flynn, Green Bay
    • Rex Grossman, Washington
    • Byron Leftwich, Pittsburgh
    • Kyle Orton, Kansas City
    • Brady Quinn, Denver
    • Charlie Whitehurst, Seattle
    • Vince Young, Philadelphia
Do any of these quarterbacks do anything for you?

I would stay with McGee before I would waste resources on any of these guys. Out of that group the only one with a future is Matt Flynn and given his showing vs Det I would not be surprised to see a team go after him in FA

I wouldn't be surprised if Shannahan has crosshairs on Flynn as we talk.

As purely a back-up, Carr, Orton and Campbell would all fill the role well.

...flynn has looked real good in limited action...but the packers offense is a machine: someone stupid like the foreskins will back up the brinks truck...could work out like Kurt Warner(hope not) or it could NOT work out like Kevin Kolb in arizona....either way, we have too many other needs and we won't sign him IMO

....however Orton interests me...strictly as a backup the guy is solid: he can keep the train on the rails for 1-4 games if Romo were to get hurt, I really believe that. So do the Chicago Bears, who found out last season that if your #1 gets better have a solid #2: they didn't and the season was lost. They will be sniffing around Orton heavily. I think we should get him.....we could do worse.

he'll go somewhere where there is a realistic chance of starting - we'll likely go older and/or failed higher round pick. I like Campbell. He ain't great but he can drive a bus for a few weeks

I didn't see him on the list but I believe Henne is UFA as well. Whitehurst may be another guy to think about.

you want a guy like Kitna who understands he is a back up. Frankly of that list the guys that can do decently probably all want to be starters.

Marginal starter. Good back up. Provided the Cowboys bolster the offensive line this off-season, they won't tank next season if Romo is out for any sustained length of time.

I wouldn't mind Campbell as backup either. He's a decent QB.

Orton or Campbell would be ideal back-ups, but the question is would they be okay with that role?

I think Campbell wants a legitimate chance to start with the HC's full backing.

Oakland wasn't terrible with him last year. He could make an Alex Smith type comeback with the right team.

I'm willing to bet that opportunity won't happen for Jason in Oakland.

I guess I'd go with Orton since Flynn will probably be overpaid based off of one big game.

We have to do something. McGee is a bum. Can't read defenses.

Yea it's a shame he got hurt and they brought in Carson. I think Jason Campbell has the ability to be an above average quarterback.

Its just going to be tough to find the right situation. Cleveland is probably looking to draft (rg3).I can't think of many teams that would greatly improve with him under center, hell have to compete in a place with mediocre QB (Miami/Cleveland/Arizona)

Of that list, I'd take David Carr as a back up (he could give us inside info on the Giants too lol)
