Cowboys doctors informed TE Jason Witten he will not need surgery for lacerated spleen. @JasonWitten is questionable for opener vs. NYG.

Great news! It has been just over a week with two more weeks until the opener. These types of injuries take 3-4 weeks to recover from, it is going to be cutting it close come game time.

Great news that he won't need surgery. Horrible news that he likely won't play week 1.

Where did you see that he likely wont play? If he does not need surgery I will guarantee that nothing is gonna stop him from playing.

Austin and Dez can get it done, if need be.

    Rest up soldier.

We also have Philips, and Murray as options. As well the emerging KO :p:

You inferred that from Schefter's tweet? Or some other report?

Great news. If he only misses 2-3 games, that will be a huge relief for us.

Schefter was just on ESPN saying Witten is not expected to be ready until week 2 now.

When will some of you guys get this, a spleen injury is not about toughing it out. It's a dangerous injury that needs to heal up completely before getting back on the field. The doctors will decide when he can play, it's out of Witten's hands.

He will wear extra padding and he will play week 1... count on it.

If it is not 100% healed, he will not play. All it would take is a shot to the mid-section and then he will need surgery. This is not an injury you play through even with no pain, it needs to be fully recovered.

i don't think this is a pain tolerance issue. if the doctors don't clear him, the cowboys won't let him play.

Extra padding doesn't help an injured internal organ...

    rest him.

hanna and phillips will do for the giants game. we probably won't win that one so dr. jerry shouldn't risk it

In a masochistic way it will be better for the team if he's out. It will toughen them up. The team will learn to deal with adversity early on. I'd rather things like this happen at the beginning of the season.

I'm glad he won't need surgery though, for his sake alone.

They already said extra padding is not a option and wont help. Only way he will play if the dr clears and that wont happen unless the spleen is completely healed.
