Can someone refresh my memory why the Cowboys played the Tampa Bay Buccaneers twice in a period of three weeks?

We played them the 5th and 7th weeks of the 1990 season. We beat them both times 14-10 and 17-13.

I remember this, but I do not remember why it was that the NFL did that.

Can someone help me on this?

At that time last place teams played the other two last place teams in thier conference twice. The fact that it was in a span of three weeks was just a coincidence.

The 14-10 contest was Emmitt's first 100yd game. I remember Irvin won the other game with a late TD.

I listened to both games on the radio sitting on my porch. During one of them, a guy running for county sheriff came by to try and win my vote. He sat there and talked for about 30 minutes about why he would make a good sheriff and all I wanted to do was listen to the game.
