His performance at the Combine. He only pushed up 21 reps. That is the lowest number of reps by any of the top rated OG/C prospects with the exception of Winters, who was injured and Barrett, also injured and didn't lift.

Also, I've watched him play. He has some lower body strength but it's primarily with push forward and not laterally. When he plays against stronger quicker DTs, he has issues keeping them out of his body and as a result, he loses leverage. He can be neutralized because he doesn't move laterally well and he isn't strong enough to prevent them from taking him to his off shoulder and penetrating. He needs to get stronger in his upperbody so that he can effectively use his reach to maintain leverage points.

    Now you know.

Per his interview when he was picked, at Wisconsin he said they train doing high weight and few reps, fwiw.

I could care less about the combine- bench press is a joke.

What I saw in games makes the strength argument frankly immaterial.

He is strong enough and will get stronger.

He is massively strong in the lower body which is much harder to build up then the upper body.

I saw very few times when he was outmanned. Very few.

So the strength accusation is mostly BS.

Agreed. He doesn't pop off the screen at center, he does at guard.

I'm really interested in your view of this pick. He seems way too slow to be a pulling guard. I think how we view him really impacts the draft going forward.

I think for now he helps us a C more then guard, because of his ability at C to help the guards. He seems very effective at knowing where and when to help the guards.

the title here is Frederick is not a Center.....

If he isn't a Center -- what is he -- about the 4-8 best Guard in the draft?

At guard -- Cooper, Warmack, maybe Fluker, Long wow - the list is long.
At center -- Frederick, Schwenke, and Barrett Jones seem to be the names with Frederick on top (at least by Dallas board).

Then why wouldn't he be considered a Center, and unless they did get Schwenke why would they consider him anything but a center?

    Not real strong?

Last thing I heard was the Jordan Hill 'dominated' him so I shouldn't be surprised.

Dude pancaked more DT in a game than Warmack did all year. Ran better than him too.

I think that people should consider that Konz and Zeigler both left last year. UW guard play as well as the RT was not very good at all in the four games I watched.

Dude is slow pulling to the edge but so was Warmack but he was all world to most.

I disagree. His ability to punch a DL hard enough to stonewall him, sometimes even knock him to the ground, with ONE hand is special.

This is what I was thinking. Fluker at C although Frederick has a good squat and gets in and out of his stance well. Somehow I don't see Fluker snapping the ball. But they are both slow with adequate feet and if they get their hands on you that's usually it.

exactly. Frankly though, I tend to want the computer programmer/engineer type calling the shots for the OL

I think he can pick the spot he wants to play (G or C) and become the starter almost instantly.

Lots of confliciting reports....in a earlier thread the word was that his forte' is to be able to handle 3-4 NT one on one......which if so, center would be his spot considering the number of 3/4 at present.

The opinion of many front offices including Baltimore who I think is one of the smartest front offices around felt the real 1st round were picks 1-15 after that it was just an extended 2nd round where the actual depth of the draft is at picks 16-48

I think, if they don't get a guard in FA, they will be forced to start him out at Guard.
