I don't think Donaldson was that heavy.

Derrick Kennard, who filled in at center for the Cowboys after (and it may have been Donaldson) was lost for the season was definitely a 320lb+ guy. But it wasn't his natural position and he didn't go back to that position next season.

Yeah, maybe you're right. He could have been at 300 lbs. and he would have seemed huge compared to Stepnoski.

Ray was an anomaly and was playing besides great players. But I thought he was very good in his own right. Gurode was a bit of an anomaly as well. Most C are 6-2 to 6-4 and 280-310 or so. As long as they can get in and out of their stance quickly and snap the ball well including shotgun then they should be able to play all other things being equal and proper.

That's a solid point. They did get stuck with that but Donaldson was good.

Donaldson is listed as 6-3 and 311.

He was pretty big for a center. Particularly when he was replacing Step, who was about 280. Ray really did help the run game too. His first play from scrimmage for Dallas was Emmitt's 80 yard scamper against the giants to open the 1995 season.

    The coaching staff loves Costa.

Play the best five guys, period.

this may be true but i like the idea of having a OC who can hold his own against 3-4 teams with big NGs

i would put fred at OC and not have to worry about that very very important position for the next 10 years

Am I the only one who doesn't buy the "five best guys" rhetoric? Just because five guys are the best unit NOW does not mean they are the best unit LONGTERM. Great lines are developed overtime, and I personally believe TFred's highest ceiling is at center. As such, sit him at center and let him grow.

The one game Costa played last year, he dominated Haloti Ngata and the Cowboys rushed for over 200 yards.

Costa may be the center of the future, too. Who cares? Wouldn't it be awesome if they are both part of the solution?

Sounds like a great way to get Romo hurt and run for 2 yards per carry.

Always play the best five. That's what Jimmy did.

I don't get the love for livings.

If the best five are out there I firmly believe that does not include livings.

I doubt he even makes the team without help from injury.

    I don't disagree that sentiment.

Hey if Fred is better than Costa and can play the center position at a high level (maybe not this season, but coming seasons) then I'm A-OK with him being at center– even at 320lb+.

Costa dominated ngata's backup. ngata was injured.

They just need to go ahead and move Fred to guard. Livings and Bern need to be cut. I would rather have Costa at center than Arkin at guard. Can't believe we are going to let the OL hijack this team again

Well yeah, it's more like... "The two best tackle, the two best guards and the best center". Having the "Best 5" be all guards or all tackles wouldn't make for a good offensive line.

Garrett won't be happy until Frederick is Doug Free 2.0.
