It has to be a concern for the Vikings that defensive tackle Pat Williams turns 37 next season. It's not out of the question that Minnesota would take a defensive tackle with its first-round pick, especially considering it's still uncertain whether Williams and fellow defensive lineman Kevin Williams will have their pending suspensions overturned. There's little doubt that 6-3, 335-pound defensive tackle Ron Brace of Boston College is on the Vikings' target list in the second round. -- Pioneer Press

Please let it be, the sooner he is off the board and in some uniform other then that of the Cowboys the better.

    I strongly disagree.

This guy is not a pressure guy or sack master but he plays harder than BJ Ravi. He makes tackles and holds the point of attack.

He may not be a great fit here but you can bet some team will love how he fills the hole for them the next 5 or 6 years at a minimum. Ravi is an ideal prospect but some team will have to use a top 15 pick on him. This guy will be Casey Hampton for you in r2.

I'm sorry, I watch a lot of BC games coming from a BC family and this guy is nothing like what you think you would get from a man his size. Opponents never found the need to double team him because one man never had a problem handling him. He disappeared for quarters if not games at a time.

I don't where this misconception comes that he eats up space and closes down the line of scrimmage because it could not be further from the truth. Opponents focused on Brace in the run game. He also has a bit of Shaun Rodgers in him because I have never seen a player so anxious to take a break after every snap.

I just don't see the fire, want to and athletic ability in the kid to say he is going to offer anything at the NFL level.

I totally disagree but we shall see.

I was one of the very few folks who liked Casey Hampton more than Shaun Rogers on the same line but I have only seen Brace play about 7 times so there is room for error.

I will say Brace played nearly the same way a junior without Ravi as he did as a senior with him. He wasn't a tackle machine but did hold his area down quite easily and did display good effort. Ravi is who seemed to turn it on and off to me.

FWIW Boston College was first in the ACC in rush defense with 95 yards per game allowed in 2008. But what's more impressive was being 1st in 2007 with Ravi sitting out and they allowed only 75 yards per game rushing.

well I hope we take a big NT in the draft and than move Rat to DE when Spears contract is up. I'm sick of seeing our d-line get manhandled late in the season especially by Philly.

I also disagree with thise assessment. I watch Brace about 5-7 games and he looked the part.

I went on the Boston College fan board and ask a few guys what they thought of him seeing him all the time and here is what they said:

"Big" Ron Brace affects the oppositions run game greatly.

Jagodzinski brought in a new strength and conditioning coach when he was hired and told him he wanted all the linemen to lose weight. Ron shed something like 30 lbs off his frame before the 2007 season and became a new player. This is why he seemingly came out of nowhere, and yes he was that affective.

The Brace naysayers never have a response to this. I have posted this as well but no response is given for some reason.

do you have a response for the fact that a 330lb. man can be stymied time and time again?

In 2007 he couldn't have been stymied too many timers being there were #1 in the nation against the run. In 2008 he couldn't have been stymied too many times being that BC again was one of the best teams in the nation against the run. By the way who stymied him? If you say Cory Procter you have a legitimate beef.

Now I gave my response you give me your on how a 330 lb nose tackle gets no credit for being on a team in back to back seasons that led the nation against the run. I'll wait.

have you seen the BC LB corp? that's a big reason why they're so good against the run

He had 27 tackles both seasons and their LB's were tops in the ACC in tackles. He had very little to do with that.

Exactly, their LB's make that defense.

I would say he had some to do with that, as all he does is occupy blocks, and probably was occupying 2 with Raji out

    that's nothing special though

You can't be serious. Isn't that what a traditional good DT does in a 3-4? Why do you think they led in tackles.
