Ben Bass figures he had about the same kind of spring as he did last year.

Which, in both cases, is pretty good.

“Last year, some guys got hurt, and so I went from fourth string to second string,” the second-year Cowboys defensive tackle said last week at minicamp. “And I got a chance to show what I can do – show that I can get up the field, run around and make some plays here and there.”

    And this year?

“I felt like it was the same thing as last year. I just did it a little better,” he said.

    He may be right.

I do as well going back to last year. He reminds me of Jonathan Babineaux of the Falcons. I think he can be a quality starter in the future in the 4-3.

This is the depth-guy I liked going into camp. Over Price, that is. I think he can be active on game days and give us some snaps this season. Who knows, he might even continue to develop into a starting-caliber player. It would be nice to find even another quality role player along the DL.

We need more young defensive linemen to step up like he apparently has (at least according to reports).

If he can give us some snaps in rotation and subbing for injuries then great. We are likely to need some young blood.
