If your salary structure dictates that you could only extend one of Bruce Carter or Sean Lee, which one would you extend? My own choice would be Carter because he shows similar skills but more speed and explosiveness and his injury history is much less suggestive of weak connective tissue. I think Lee has now had four such injuries and has missed significant time with injury in all 3 of his years in the league. Right now I'd be thinking hard about inking Carter before he truly blows up - 5 years $35M sounds about right as an EXTENSION with $15M guaranteed. That may be enough future security for the player to get everyone's name on the line. The kid could blow out his knee in the next game and have to live off his second round bonus while trying to learn a trade. Once we have Carter in the fold I'd consider signing Lee to a smaller bonus deal with a lot of incentives based on production/health that could put him in the $9M/yr range if healthy and producing.
