If you had to choose only one to extend?

If your salary structure dictates that you could only extend one of Bruce Carter or Sean Lee, which one would you extend?

My own choice would be Carter because he shows similar skills but more speed and explosiveness and his injury history is much less suggestive of weak connective tissue. I think Lee has now had four such injuries and has missed significant time with injury in all 3 of his years in the league.

Right now I'd be thinking hard about inking Carter before he truly blows up - 5 years $35M sounds about right as an EXTENSION with $15M guaranteed. That may be enough future security for the player to get everyone's name on the line. The kid could blow out his knee in the next game and have to live off his second round bonus while trying to learn a trade.

Once we have Carter in the fold I'd consider signing Lee to a smaller bonus deal with a lot of incentives based on production/health that could put him in the $9M/yr range if healthy and producing.

Yeah, Carter. Lee has been hurt too much.

I'd extend them both and get rid of Spencer.

Not an either or with me. Both. Any other move would be stupid on a level not yet seen.

it would be a devestating decision to have to make...but me, i keep Lee, if he stays healthy he could be IMO great on a historic level...HOF type player, plus the leadership element that this team has needed for years...while Carter is very good and may be great one day, players like Lee are rare

If both showed signs of being consistently healthy, Carter.

His athleticism for a MLB is otherwordly.

"Weak connective tissue"? Is that an actual disease entity?

I'd have to go with Lee if only because he's shown he can do it over multiple seasons. I'd assume Bruce will only improve, but there are plenty of one season wonders in football (though usually not at the LB spot).

Lee is not a Rare Talent. He is Injury-Prone and does not deserve a Contract Extension unless it is VERY reasonable. Our defense has not missed a beat since his injury. He has played 3 years and he still cannot play a full season. Carter is a Beast who Thumps everybody who has the Ball. He is way better than I expected. Butch Davis boasted about Carter's Talent on Draft Day and Butch was not putting smoke up our butt. Great Draft Pick so far by Garrett because everybody knows "Jerry can't Pick a Blue Chip Talent if it smacked him in the Face".

I understand what you're saying but the guy is not only a great player but he's a team leader. You do not let those types of guys go under any circumstances

How about Sensabaugh's tackle attempt on Brent Celek on the Eagles first pass of the game?

That guy has to be one of the least physical safeties I've ever seen.

Peprah, a walk on free agent is a godsend. That speaks volumes about Gerald.

I wouldnt pay Lee until he proved he could stay healthy for a full year. Like someone said, the d hasn't fallen off without him.
