I am not going to draw any conclusions other than this: BOTH PARTIES ARE TO BLAME.

Please tell me that this chart isn't trying to say Jimmy Carter was a great president.

    :lmao2:

Just goes to show that this isn't an indication of greatness.

This graph representd a cold, cruel reality for lifelong Republicans such as myself. The spending, especially recently, has been atrocious.

However, in fairness to Reagan, his spending enabled us to win a cold war, and he did manage to curtail the budget somewhat later in his presidency. Reagan would never adopt the neo-con mantra of "spend with impunity because it doesn't really matter." He desired and saw the need for a balanced budget, but he wanted to end the Cold War first and foremost.

Congress controls the budget. Remake the chart to reflect who was in control of Congress in addition to who was President.

Geez, Zrin, will we ever see his likes again?

This may be the one time I would be in favor of cloning.

    Well, this and Yvonne Strahovski.

Exactly... it has to be put into perspective although our government should/should spend MUCH less than it does...

It's our fault as we keep voting the same offenders back into office...

Just another thing I'll never understand in my lifetime.

Why are people always so inclined to vote for the incumbant after a horrible term in office?

I (as I'm sure most do) see it at the local and state level also.

Hey. Last election, I was only 18.

    Cut me some slack. :)

Didn't know Bush would **** it up so bad.

That's what I get for trusting the Neo-cons and Repubs.

When you figure out how to vote in a split government, let me know. But if you have Repubs in the WH and Repubs in Congress, spending is going to skyrocket. Same with Dems.

    This....I agree with.

I can't tell you how disappointed I am with the Republicans. I was excited when they controlled Washington because I thought spending would go down.

I know 9/11 really screwed things up.....but I really hope we curtail the spending.

    I truly hope so.

I agree with Ann Coulter about the election.

This may be the worst collection of presidential candidates EVER.

There isn't one that really inspires me.

    McCain...blah
    Hillary....disgusting
    Obama...blah

    I was hopeful too.

But I think I was merely convinced by the right wing propaganda.

    They spend like the liberals.

Well, the Republicans that are in Congress now aren't necessarily the same Republicans that were in Congress 10+ years ago that spread the small government gospel. The "Contract with America" types like Scarborough, Gingrich, and Robert Walker simply aren't there anymore.

I don't know about that. But I wouldn't mind him back in charge of the House.
