We are in a win now or within the next 2 years situation with Romo though.
This might not be popular, but in this case I actually wouldn't be opposed to giving this guy a serious look. It's obvious that we're going to employ a rotation on the D line that's going to require depth (as opposed to relying on 1 or 2 stars). And I think there's a chance that this guy could help that rotation without being a true "progress stopper". He's certainly a proven pass rusher; that much can't be denied. I'm wondering what kind of salary he'd want, and I did see one poster say he's a locker room cancer (although I haven't heard that before). If that's true then I'd say pass on him entirely.
I'd like to know what Marinelli and the scouting department thinks of him, just out of curiosity.
He is horribly playing the run. Teams would just audible to a run and run at him when he is in. I would rather have our platoon of unknowns then hope this guy hits his ceiling of 7-10 sacks at 34 years old.
You have a point sir! I think they could start to look at players like this sometime later in camp; just not now until they know what they have onboard. But they all should be feeling urgency.
I know I am! I'm not ready to go under before we win another SB. It's on my pre-bucket list.
If I thought we were a Super Bowl contender, I'd say it's worth a look see for depth.
But I don't see us contending. And we may as well see what we have with some of our youth. Spend time and energy into developing our younger players. A stop gap isn't going to do much.
They ran at Ware and Selvie last year. PFF shows Selvie did fairly well against the run but other stats and my eyes tell me differently. So that needs work. And that is why I so much want Spencer back. It's way hard to run on him. And that makes it easier to shore up the other side.
Not at all. We have Jeremy Mincey. Definitely got Mincey.
And that guy had exactly .5 more sacks in his best year that this supposedly washed up player had last season at his age.
Put him on the payroll with an incentive laden contract that would net him $500K at 8 sacks, playing 25-30 snaps a game as a specialist, I fail to see what the issue is. But we have such young studly up and comers at DE we don't need that I guess.
At least Mincey has theoretical upside, lol. He could surprise us...but I think he'll be cut.
six in one hand, half dozen in the other
The Jags added Red Byrant, Chris Clem ons, and Ziggy Hood to SenDerrick Marks and Tyson Alualu.
That's not bad.
put a fork in him he is done…..
They are different type players. Mincey is a plus run defender and Babin is a minus run defender.
I think Mincey might be he RDE on base downs with Lawrence replacing him in the Nickel. That wouldn't work with Babin even if Babin is a better pass rusher than Mincey.
