At this time last year, there was much hand wringing about the role of head coach Jason Garrett in the offense and it continued until Bill Callahan was installed as offensive coordinator and play caller.

All of that appears to have been much ado about nothing. Owner Jerry Jones said Sunday that Garrett actually was the offensive coordinator for the team last season and even called plays despite the shift in responsibilities. Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that Jones acknowledged that was a problem for Callahan.

The Cowboys have a new offensive play caller in Scott Linehan and Jones said that there won’t be a repeat this season. He says Linehan will have final word on the offense and that quarterback Tony Romo will have more say while Garrett spends more of his time with the defense this season. The Cowboys shuffled the staff on that side of the ball as well, moving Rod Marinelli into the defensive coordinator post and shifting Monte Kiffin to an assistant head coach title.

Not sure how valuable his input will be on that side of the ball.

So he can "frustrate" Marinelli like he did Callahan now? Excellent.

Coach Jerry Jones orchestrating the duties & responsibilities of the coaching staff.
    Classic Jerry.

    It's called being 'coachly'.

    Is that a word...?

I think Garrett finally has a comfort zone with his coaches on both sides of the ball..

..he doesn't need to micromanage like earlier..

Will help the players to see Garrett as trusting others to do their jobs.

The more I read about Callahan and his complaints about losing playcaller duties..

    ..the happier I get.

Clearly was running an offense from 2003 and we were choking on it.

Can't wait to see him replaced.

    Not nearly good enough..not nearly.

What could Garrett possibly add to the defensive experience?

Tips on how to play harder because the offense did not do it's part running the ball to protect the lead?

Given the fact Garrett has serious trust issues to begin with, I guess this is a small victory.

Garrett called the plays?? What a sham!

I hate Garrett already, but his integrity is very questionable. He might officially be the worst coach not only in the NFL now, but in Cowboys history. I would rather have Schiano quite frankly.

Alright guys, just stand back there and wait for the inaccurate noodle armed QB to pass it to you.

Oh wait, thats what defenses did to me.

There are a lot of things that Garrett can do to win more games insulated from what Jerry Jones does. Even if it resulted in a game or two a season, it would be to his benefit. For example, he still does not trust his OL to win games for him when it was clear they were the most functional unit on his team last season. That is what I mean by trust.

But for whatever reason, he can't or just won't.
