'Joe the Plumber' strikes back at media

He says he's upset by the attention and feels terrible about the criticism

    updated 11:22 a.m. CT, Sun., Oct. 19, 2008
NEW YORK - "Joe the Plumber" is lashing out at the media for analyzing his personal life since he suddenly became a focal point of the presidential race last week.

Joe Wurzelbacher, a plumber from Holland, Ohio, told Mike Huckabee on his Fox News talk show Saturday that he is upset by the attention and has been unable to work with reporters crowded on his front lawn.

"The media's worried about whether I've paid my taxes, they're worried about any number of silly things that have nothing to do with America," Wurzelbacher told the former Republican presidential hopeful on his show, "Huckabee."

Wurzelbacher said he felt terrible after reading some of the criticism of himself posted online.

"I felt about that small," he said. "I mean I really did."

Republican presidential candidate John McCain has been portraying Wurzelbacher as emblematic of people with concerns about Obama's tax plans.

Wurzelbacher became famous after he met Obama and said the Democrat's tax proposal could keep him from buying the two-man plumbing company where he works. However, reports of Wurzelbacher's annual earnings suggest he would receive a tax cut rather than an increase under Obama's plan.

"You know, I am a plumber," Wurzelbacher said. "Just a plumber."

Wurzelbacher said he agreed to appear on the show after he received phone calls from friends serving in the military who voiced their support.

"You know, when you can't ask a question of your leaders anymore, that gets scary," he said.

On Sunday, McCain was to travel to Ohio, where he might appear with Wurzelbacher.

The media has shamelessly gone after him and are trying to ruin him...

The media is taking things out of context. He makes 90k a year right now, but he said he wants to BUY the business he works for and that would put him into the upper tax bracket...

The Joe the Plumber thing just needs to go away. I have no idea why people keep talking about it.

But really, if the guy doesn't want the attention, don't give interviews and tell the McCain campaign to stop talking about him.

What they've done to this man is nothing short of criminal. His only crime was asking The Chosen One a question. When Obama gave a very revealing, damaging answer, that meant the plumber had to be destroyed. This man has been vetted, investigated, and scrutinized more than Bill Ayers. This is pure thuggery and intimidation, and an unsettling glimpse into how Obama and his vile media surrogates deal with dissent. Yeah, they're all for the middle class and Joe Six Pack, so long as they vote Dem, shut the hell up, and don't ask uncomfortable questions.

The rest of America should fear the media more than they do Bush...

You mess with them, they go after you with a vengeance...

Bet this guy wishes he never talked to Obama now.

    :laugh2:

But in the end he can thank McCain for using him ridiculously...Over and Over and Over and Over again.

    Joe the Plummer.

    Good Lord.

You don't have a problem with the way the media has done him?

ALL of the criticism of him is just a facade to not talk about the real message of Joe the plumber... "Spread the wealth around".

THAT is the reason the media has made HIM the focal point... To get the spotlight off of Obama's socialistic message.

I think the whole "Joe the plumber" shtick should be dropped and his 15 minutes should be up. However, he keeps giving interviews and the McCain campaign keeps using him as a "prop".

It doesn't take a rocket surgeon to figure out what is going to happen with an unknown coming onto the scene. He's going to become known very quickly.

Do you not have a problem with how the media has treated him?

Yeah, violating a man's privacy, publishing his home address, insinuating that he's not licensed to do his job, falsely reporting that he's not registered to vote, and revealing his annual salary and tax records is a real laugher. Let's do the same to you and see if you're equally cavalier.

Um, Joe is not a candidate. He's not running for anything. He seeks no power over anyone. He's not "fair game" or a legitimate target for persecution. The only thing that matters is Obama's controversial response to a question from a US citizen. You expected McCain to let that one go? But hey, keep laughing at fascistic tactics to shut people up.

All this time I thought Libs like yourself loved and revered the common man. Buncha liars.

Typical "ends justifies the means" partisanship...

    It really disappoints me...

The left cries about Bush being in their private lives, but turns a blind eye to Joe the Plumber being raked over the coals by the press for asking their beloved candidate a legitimate question...

Yeah and McCain wanted him to come to a rally...but he said no...he had to go to New York for interviews.

    Damn Media.

Of course not. How dare he even question your messiah.

    I mean the nerve.

Does anyone need anymore evidence of the type of people who are voting for this ignorant fool?

They have no shame, yet have the nerve to accuse McCain of running a negative or "nasty" campaign. Heck, they should know. Mac has been far too kind to these brownshirts.

Then maybe the guy should stop giving media interviews...but he doesn't.

And McCain himself can stop using him as a prop.

    But No.

    Cry me a river.
