The Vikings are 1-5, they've already had their bye week. There is no relief in sight for them. They just made a big pick up, signing Greg Jennings. Jennings' cap hit is 7 million next year, and 11 million the year after that. It'll be difficult to cut him next year given his signing bonus. In other words the Vikings aren't going to win this year, and they aren't going to win next year. They're going to have to go into rebuilding, and it doesn't make sense to rebuild with a 29 (2014) year old running back who would have 8 years of heavy wear and tear on him who is going to cost 14.4 million dollars next year versus the cost of trading him which is 4.8 million. Trading him now while you still can gives you better value than when he hits 30. And the fact is the Vikings aren't getting any better. Frazier will be fired, and the new coach is going to want to properly rebuild this team. Getting value from Peterson is the obvious way to facilitate that rebuilding.
