He must have checked out pretty good in the physical to get a 2 year deal.

Not a bad signing for switching to the 3-4

Because of injury, Im told Kemoeatu has contract w/ lot of workout, roster bonuses included up-front. Prob wont be ready until training camp less than a minute ago via web

@Russellmania09: The #Redskins gave some upfront money to Ma'ake Kemoeatu to make it a quick sign. A large % of the deal is salary based, so not guaranteed.

@Russellmania09: I was told by #NFL source that long meetings with Shanny, Haslett and J. Burney and the scheme + faith made it a 'perfect fit' #Redskins

@Russellmania09: New #Redskins NT Ma'ake Kemoeatu will be ready to go by Camp no doubt, may be ready by last minicamp. Classic 2-gap clogging nose tackle

@Russellmania09: Also, as I have said all along - will push Albert Haynesworth to the DE (5-Tech) spot in the 3-4. He was only playing NT if no other choice

    Haynesworth to DE?

    Really?

Yes -- a 330 lb DE, with Orakpo rushing? This is one move I am nearing giddy-level over. We'll see how well it works, but I do like the potential.

In a 3-4 scheme it could work real well.

I doubt its an everydown move, I am sure there will be quite the variety, but it is certainly an option

I'm not suggesting it wont. But like us with Ratliff, why move a Pro-Bowl/All-Pro DT to defensive end, when there is no guarantee it might work?

    Maake Kemoeatu-DL- Redskins Mar. 10 - 11:44 am et

Redskins signed NT Maake Kemoeatu to a two-year, $7 million contract.

Kemoeatu is coming off a dicey Achilles' tear that required two separate surgeries, so this is a risky signing. But if healthy, Kemoeatu could play nose tackle and allow Albert Haynesworth to focus on his more natural end spot in the Redskins' new 3-4 scheme. Kemoeatu remains a big question mark for Week 1, so the Skins shouldn't be counting on him to start.

    Its far different from Ratliff.

Ratliff is an all pro/probowl nose tackle in a 3-4 scheme already

We haven't seen Haynesworth in a 3-4 ever. So you may as well experiment, move him around and see where he can fit in best. Having him at the end spot on some downs (in particular 1st and 2nd) can be very nice against the run when you have a (hopefully healthy) 345 lbs nose tackle in there also

..and no guarantees it WON'T work either.

Like I posted above -- Haynesworth and Orakpo rushing from the same said? It has a LOT of potential.

It is conceivable (although entirely random speculation) that they could produce 20 sacks between the two of them (another random, fact-less prediction: 12 for Orakpo, 8 for Haynesworth).

It's also conceivable that it doesn't work at all...

There I made a template for you to use. You can just copy and paste this over and over again. It'll make it easier to not contribute anything to a conversation.

    Huh? Where is the "giddyness"

The 2 Skins fans who have posted in this thread are saying "solid signing, we'll see what happens"

Because who knows what the hell will happen.

I said "near" giddy, I like the potential of Haynesworth and Orakpo rushing from the same side. I said it could be great, it could not work out at all.

If he's healthy, it is a good signing. If he's not healthy, and the contract is structured well, it won't be a bad signing. The interesting part for me, is that the new GM/Coach are keeping the lid on Danny Boy. He's not up to his usual hijinks. Too bad!

Still, if improvement is slow, he could fire them all in a fit of pique.

You know -- I just don't see this happening. Shanny is HIS guy. He will get the same leeway that Gibbs got. And Gibbs retired again. Snyder wanted him back for a 5th year.
