Burnett among Chargers' vets in roster trouble

Maybe the most surprising player we hear is in danger of being let go is ILB Kevin Burnett. Signing with the Bolts as a free agent prior to last season, Burnett became disgruntled late in '09 as his playing time began to decrease, not ending the season on the best of terms with the club. He then underwent neck surgery in the offseason and was unable to participate in any team activities. If San Diego gets productive outings from '10 third-rounder Donald Butler and its other young inside 'backers during exhibition action, it could be enough to push the former Cowboy onto the wrong side of the bubble, especially if his neck doesn't prove to be fully healthy.

Still would have been an upgrade over Bobby Carp last year.

He is a good player but has serious trouble staying healthy - I think that's about 3 knee surgeries, 1 hip surgery and 1 neck surgery now.

For the vet minimum I'd probably take him back. *ducks*

If he's cut, he'll be a Redskin. They need LB's that can run after switching to the 3-4..

I'm not so sure about that. He's also had a history of issues both with team management and with staying healthy. On the field, he's a role player who's a borderline starter on a good team. That's not too different from Carpenter. I'm glad we're clear of both players, because both developmental ILBs on the roster now have the potential to be regular starters and possibly even probowl players.

I always likes Burnett. Injuries aside, a very good role player.

Not with his history of injury and current neck problems. He would just be a progress stopper for a young LB.

Too bad for him though I hope he can catch on with somebody if he is cut.

Repeatedly injured and angry at the coaching staff because they don't think he's nearly as great as he does.

.... the more things change the more they stay the same.
