Plus, Marinelli turns 64 years old himself. I'm would suspect he's made his peace about his place in the NFL and knows he's never going to be a hot name HC candidate ever again. I'm not sure he's that much more motivated by career advancement and job titles than enjoying the right fit at this point in his career, as long as he's paid competitively to any other job offers on the table.

I would be more concerned about Jacksonville, given his background with Gus Bradley. But even there, he would probably just be DC in name only as Bradley ran the defense. There is also the issue of Jacksonville not having much to work with on their defense.

Don't you worry. The line now will be "No coach under the age of 60 wants to coach for the Dallas Cowboys".

Money shouldn't be a problem for Jerry, this would be a good move

If he turned down Trestman's offer after their meeting this morning, he already knows where he's going. If having a DC title was really his highest priority, why wouldn't he stay in Chicago as the DC and work with players he's familiar with and have a proven track record in his system? Unless he just hates the city of Chicago and wants to live somewhere else.

Loyalty to Lovie. He doesn't want to stay on staff after they moved on from Lovie. Those are the whispers at least.

IIRC, he was not paid that well in Chicago since they are averse to paying coaches. If true, wouldn't surprise me to see him making more here as a D-Line coach than as a D-Coordinator in Chicago.

In a February staff meeting around the big table, Marinelli is asked what he would do to expedite the defense's transition to the 4-3: Mr. Jones, he replies, I'd bring in Henry Melton. Also, you might see if Devin Hester is available.

Lovie collects $5 million if he sits out the year from the Bears. Why would he take a massive pay cut to be a DC elsewhere? Lovie is a smart guy.

Sit out the year, take your $5 million and look for a HC job next year.

Gotta think if Marinelli comes over that there's a pretty high chance Joe Barry is coming as well. Assuming San Diego would let him out of his contract. Putting aside the long working history Barry has with Marinelli and Kiffin at multiple locations, he's Marinelli's son-in-law.
