Lakota Indians Secede From United States

Several Lakota Indians, tired of having the government not live up to its treaty promises, have decided to withdraw from treaty partnerships with the U.S. altogether, forming a new country that includes parts of the states of Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana and Wyoming.

“We have 33 treaties with the United States that they have not lived by,” Phyllis Young, an Indian rights activist said. “They continue to take our land, our water, our children.”

The new Indian country will issue its own passports and driving licenses, and living there will be tax-free, as long as citizens renounce their U.S. citizenship. The State Department has not yet reacted to the Lakota declaration of independence.

Putin Threatens Recognition of Breakaway US Lakota Sioux Indian Tribe

Reports circulating in the Kremlin today state that an enraged President Putin has ordered Russian Foreign Ministry Officials to begin the processes needed for Russia to recognize the Lakota Sioux Indian Tribe as an independent Nation, and who have now broken away from the United States by renouncing their treaties with their occupiers, and as we can read as reported by the AFP News Service:

"The Lakota Indians, who gave the world legendary warriors Sitting Bull[pictured left] and Crazy Horse, have withdrawn from treaties with the United States, leaders said Wednesday.

"We are no longer citizens of the United States of America and all those who live in the five-state area that encompasses our country are free to join us," long-time Indian rights activist Russell Means told a handful of reporters and a delegation from the Bolivian embassy, gathered in a church in a run-down neighborhood of Washington for a news conference.

A delegation of Lakota leaders delivered a message to the State Department on Monday, announcing they were unilaterally withdrawing from treaties they signed with the federal government of the United States, some of them more than 150 years old.

They also visited the Bolivian, Chilean, South African and Venezuelan embassies, and will continue on their diplomatic mission and take it overseas in the coming weeks and months, they told the news conference.

Lakota country includes parts of the states of Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana and Wyoming.

The new country would issue its own passports and driving licences, and living there would be tax-free -- provided residents renounce their US citizenship, Means said.

The treaties signed with the United States are merely "worthless words on worthless paper," the Lakota freedom activists say on their website.

The treaties have been "repeatedly violated in order to steal our culture, our land and our ability to maintain our way of life," the reborn freedom movement says.

Withdrawing from the treaties was entirely legal, Means said.

"This is according to the laws of the United States, specifically article six of the constitution," which states that treaties are the supreme law of the land, he said.

"It is also within the laws on treaties passed at the Vienna Convention and put into effect by the US and the rest of the international community in 1980. We are legally within our rights to be free and independent," said Means."

Putin’s anger, according to these reports, is based upon the United States engineering of the failure of United Nations talks on the Serbian breakaway province of Kosovo which is seeking independence, and which, according to Russian experts, will lead to an ‘uncontrollable crisis’ throughout the Balkans.

Putin was reported to have told one of his top aides that ‘two can play at this game’, in an obvious reference to the American President whom President Putin blames as being behind the machinations to increase instability along Russia’s borders with Eastern Europe.

Russian legal experts further state that of all of the United States Indian Tribes, the Lakota Sioux are the best positioned to have their declaration of independence from the American government recognized by the United Nations as they remain the only indigenous peoples in the US to have refused to accept payment for their lands, estimated to be nearly $1 billion, which they consider their ‘sacred grounds’ and have stated they would never relinquish.

It is, also, interesting to note that the Lakota Sioux are credited with one of the American Indians greatest defeat of US Military Forces in the Indian Wars by defeating the US Civil War Hero George Armstrong Custer and his Seventh Calvary in June, 1876 at the battle of Little Big Horn.

With these latest events, and with Russia as a potential new ally, one can only wonder if these long suffering and resilient Indians can once again defeat their age old enemies residing in the corridors of power in Washington D.C.

Hmm, it means absolutely nothing.. Oh ok, well you are an idiot. People like you are the reason this country is moving into tyranny. If this post gets deleted.. it is only further proof of blind conservative tools not wanting to see the truth.

Listen pal, being a conservative does not equate to not wanting to see the truth any more than being a liberal makes you want a socialist dictatorship. You call someone else an idiot? Take a look in the mirror friend. I am a conservative, and a Cherokee Indian. I have nothing but respect for what the Lakota are doing. The US government signed the treaties, they need to live up to the treaties. If you had ever lived on a reservation, you would feel the same way.

I disagree. In my opinion, it entails huge implications on a grander scale. Russia is a player in the G8. If they take the lead on this, it could cause a stir.....

I wouldn't see it as a such a big deal if Russia doesn't take any initiative though...

I'm part Cajun and part Choctaw so I can speak with some autonomy.
While it is interesting, they really don't have the infrastructure nor the man power to make any kind of difference even if they were allowed to secede which they won't.

Honestly, it's much ado about nothing. But I like the story. Fun to read.

Putin sticks his oar in here and the gloves really come off. There are a lot of ways we can hurt Russia- PUtin has been really getting a bad rep for some fairly stupid behavior- and I will enjoy starting to make him hurt.

Bah, I get enough good reads around here. I used to go to democratunderground and freerepublic just to read the BS the extremists on both sides were spewing. It's boring. I've always registered as "Independent" since the first time I registered to vote in 1983. That was coming off Reagan's first term and we all still had the bad aftertaste of Nixon handing off to Ford, and then four years of Jimmah Cartah and his brother Billy. Clinton pissed me off in his handling of the military, but Carter was such a bad leader that even Ted Kennedy would have been an improvement (I exagerate!). I've never trusted either side, but I make my decisions based on less government down my back, more money in my pocket, and a strong military to ensure the latter and protect the former.

    two points

1.resorting to name calling like idiot means you already lost the debate.
2.tyranny comes from the left, not right.

you probably think hitler and the nazi party was right wing.
nazism was a socialist political movement.it was nearly as left as communism.

BOTH sides are quick to seize power and loath to relinquish it. Don't ever be so naive in your one sided political views to ignore that point.

Tyranny in this country comes from within. If you still believe the official story of 9/11.. well let's face it you are an idiot. I need not waste my time with you if you are that ignorant. BTW, tyranny comes from either side. Watch this whole thing: http://video.google.com/videoplay?d...235&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=0

and reply later.. only then will you have both sides of the story
