Byron Leftwich might have thrown his last pass for the Jaguars. League sources say the team might try to deal him in the offseason, particularly if his replacement, David Garrard shows anything in the remaining games -- Philadelphia Daily News

Would be wild. I really haven't seen what the Jags see in Garrard. Seems like they have to run the ball extremely well to win with Garrard. Garrard just isn't very good IMO. If I were playing against him, I would stack the box to stop the run and force him to throw the ball, which I don't think he does very well.

Garrard is like a mini-Romo, while Leftwich is Bledsoe.

That ability to move, avoid pressure, and occasionally run six or seven yards for a first down is huge in today's game.

They were 3-3 with Leftwich and 3-1 with Garrard this year. Over the last 2 seasons they're 10-6 with Leftwich and 8-2 with Garrard. Over that time strangely, Leftwich has a better completion percentage and QB rating (he also has more yards and TDs, since he played more games). It's strange how the team just seems to win with Garrard more than Leftwich. Personally I've always thought Leftwich was a bum. That throwing motion is absurd.

I agree that it seems that the Jags win more consistently with Garrard back there but it really seems like the Jags are MUCH less of a playoff threat with Garrard than Lefty.
Maybe its that Lefty is more talented but that the team doesn't respond as well to him....I don't know. Its a weird situation IMO....and the Jags don't have any good answers.

I think the Leftwich/Bledsoe comparison is a very good one. Except Leftwich has awful mechanics.

Garrard, irrelevant of Lefty, has been on the bench far too long.

It's been several summers since Garrard outplayed Brunell in preseason, and so strikingly that more than just fans were calling for him to start.

But Tom Coughlin's job was hanging by a thread - and he appeared afraid to make the move. He lost his job anyway.

David Garrard may well have been starting material for years.

    Ouch.

    That sounds familiar.

Some people have been saying that about some dude by the name of......of....of....

Romo, I think his name is.

Of all the QB "mistakes" Bill's gotten hung with in Dallas (which of course tend to ignore he arrived with a mandate from JJ to see what he 'had' in Q and Hutch), the only one ever seemed egregious to me was passing on Lefty (not Delhomme or Volek - but geez, even Kerry Collins was used to bludgeon Bill with).

    Lefty stung.

Not that TNew isn't worth his weight in gold.

But that Leftwich could develop into Dan Fouts was troubling. The kind of oversight/error that sinks franchises for a decade.

I like Lefty, and think he's got a good future....but the fact that an undrafted free agent signed in the same year is fundamentally and game management wise, not to mention in accuracy, so obviously his superior -

well, it took four years, but things have 'worked out'...

Leftwich receiving ankle surgery to keep him out of the way the rest of the season, and Tony becoming the darling of the NFL.

I never thought Leftwich deserved his lofty draft status. His immobility and poor mechanics would be his downfall. I was okay with the Newman pick at the time. Not thrilled, by OK. He will make his first Pro Bowl this year. Deservedly so.

Meanwhile, Leftwich has never played to the level of his draft status. I don't believe he ever will. He has never even sniffed a Pro Bowl. That's not good for a #8 overall pick, or whatever slot he was picked in.

Before Leftwich was drafted, I thought he would find a way to eat himself out of the NFL eventually.

He should be the spokesman for the Big Mac.
