All I did was point out it is possible for a player even a QB to sit. Reason was they had a productive QB who was still playing most teams taking a QB in the 1st rd do not have a productive QB. I'm not an overly big fan of Manziel but should Dallas draft a QB he will sit behind Romo for a time before he starts

As long as there are cornerbacks left on the board teams will be looking to trade up.

I do think that Johnny will take an Aaron Roders type fall and be there at 16. If so, Jerry will personally run up the card from Valley Ranch to NYC with 5 minutes left to spare on the time clock. Can you imagine how many jerseys Jerry can sell of Manziel? He may not pan out as an NFL QB, but Jerry will sell plenty of jerseys and be plenty entertained at the same time.

I don't know what Johnny will do in the NFL, but if Jerry selects him, he will have to change the offensive philosophy to one involving a big dose of running the ball. Garrett has proven he is not that coach, and now with Linehan, it seems less likelythat happens. They would have to fire Garrett and bring in a coach with an imagination, and run a Seahawk type of offense, with boot legs and roll outs. That is not in the Garrett playbook.

Regardless, if one of the other big QBs falls in out lap, we have to take him. Its time to develop Romo's successor, even if its in the early rounds.

we seldom agree but on this we do. FA is more or less a quick fix but the draft while it can help right away is more about the future than the present.

Just because before the draft the following Dallas do not need a QB does not mean that is how it will be while the actual draft is taking place.

We're in the same position Green Bay was in when they selected Aaron Rodgers.

I don't like him but if the scouts, the most educated voices in the room, tell me I'm wrong, well...then the pick is in, gentlemen. If the scouts are right, nobody will end up regretting the pick.

Well yes, if we draft him and he signs we can tell him to sit. We could tell him to sit out his entire contract if we want. But why would we do that? Why would he want to do that? We're going to hold a guy hostage that should be playing behind a guy that signed a six year extension that BEGINS this season? This guy won a Heisman trophy, he's not some project. He expects to play and he should be.

So change the QB. Say it is Bridgewater. People still want to move down? How about Bortles?

who says he is ready to play day 1? Dallas would not be holding him hostage. Again most 1st rd QB do play and why because the team that took them were in major need of a QB but that is not always the case. If Dallas feels as if Manziel is a franchise type QB they can draft him allow him time to develop before throwing him to the wolves. It would not be a case of desperation

I would take any of those if they are there in the first round at 16. Heck if Carr falls to us in the second raound, I would jump on it.

Because it is clear, even if Jones does not come out and tell you this, that Romo will not be the Cowboys' starting QB until 2019. He may not even be the QB in 2016. He carries dead money charges of $19M in 2015, down to $11M in 2016, to only $5M in 2017.

A first round QB can have a contract for five years.

There is a reason why we saw quarterbacks like Ponder, etc. chosen way before they were slated. The possible economic value of that extra year was worth the cost to move up.

The players drafted at the end of the first round give teams a club option for a fifth year at an extremely controlled price.

If this is not the season, the next year needs to be the season. If not, the worst position to be in is being desperate for a QB. You never want that.

Would take Manziel if Orton retires before the draft. Otherwise, I'm not firmly in either camp.

I do not think they have a prayer of him falling to them but it'd be interesting if he did & he tore it up in preseason

It's a 3 year contract that for Jones has only 2 possibilities: Romo is starting all 48 games or he is no longer in the NFL. By offering that contract, that's what Jerry threw down. There is no reasonable line of thinking that would lead to drafting a QB this year in the first round. If Romo's back craps out then we will be awful, take our QB in the next draft and then throw him out there. There's nothing special about this QB draft class. Just like no one saw Winston, there are plenty of other great QBs in the pipeline.

The problem here is Jerry. Does anybody really believe that if Jerry wants a certain player, the scouts and the educated voices in the room are going to over ride a player call in the Draft Room?

Not only can he be told to sit, he needs to be told to sit for a couple of seasons. He needs at least an offseason or two in the weight room to bulk up so he doesn't get killed out there while scrambling. He needs at least an offseason or two to learn how to go through progressions properly. He needs to learn when to slide and not leave himself open to big hits. He probably needs to work on his mechanics.

If he goes to a team that doesn't let him sit for a while he will more than likely bust (or just plain get busted).

I would love it. I don't see jj passing on him if he fell to 16 unless a team just offered us a kings ransom. The $ signs would be going off in jj head if he fell to us. Don't see jj passing on him

You may be right, but they have a name for players they treat like that: fourth-round pick. Manziel is a top 5 pick in just about every mock.

He better auction the pick off to the highest bidder.
