When David Herron's 17-year-old daughter couldn't find the prom dress of her dreams, he did what any resourceful dad would do: He sat down and made her one from scratch.

The Marshfield, Wisconsin native's teen daughter Mariah had been frustrated because she couldn't find an affordable dress made from camouflage fabric. "My daughter loves to hunt and fish and be outdoors and she really wanted a camo prom dress," Herron told Yahoo! Shine. "We looked online and everything was so expensive. So I suggested that we go to a fabric store to look at patterns. At that point, I wasn't thinking that I would sew the dress; I just figured that we knew a few people who could if we asked them to."

A former military man, Herron had learned how to sew his stripes and hem his own uniforms. But making a prom dress? Totally new territory. “Mariah wanted a dress with a corseted back but the woman at the fabric store said that would be too complicated and gave us suggestions for what we could do," said Herron. "At that point, I decided to take on the challenge. My next thought was: 'Oh God, what have I done?'" But determined to make his daughter happy, he paid $97 for the material.

It sounds just like a Jeff Foxworthy joke.

If your Daddy made you a camouflage prom dress...you might be a redneck.

Yes, he's a redneck because he might be wearing Wrangler jeans. Had he been wearing jeans from Buckle or some such other, he would not be. The dress would then be designer I imagine.

It's right in the picture. Would you prefer I stare at the 17 year old girl instead?

:laugh2: You just love to stir the pot. I was impressed with the dad for his perseverance, his creativity and the obvious love he has for his daughter. As for what jeans I wear, let's just say that price and fit, rather than the label are the deciding factor.

The shock value of you and over priced jeans has long since worn off.

Wrangler, Lee and other cheap brands are stiff, rough and coarse. They just don't feel good at all.
