As some of you have noticed, I have enabled responsive support on the site again after updating and fixing several display issues, especially when viewing a thread on smaller resolution devices. For those of you on mobile devices, I would like to know if the site is working better for you now?

Since the change, my previous cowboyszone app no longer works and I am not able to locate a replacement app in the verizon store. This is leaving me to access the site through the phone's web browser. Am I missing something, is the a new cowboyszone app for mobile devices?

CowboysZone has never had an app. The app you were using was not created or authorized by CowboysZone. If I had not upgraded the site to the new software, I would have found a way to disable it both technically and legally.

That said, most non-tier one sites are going to move away from apps over the next year because the distinction between mobile and non-mobile devices as well as between mobile devices themselves is becoming more blurry. That is why sites are switching to responsive designs that adjust the site to the device of the user rather than yield to the lowest common denominator of device resolutions. Responsive designs allow a site to provide one look and one set of features to their users.

Just curious, does that include apps like Tapatalk. I know I like being able to go into there, and just browse various NFL boards, common opponents, or teams that I might want to hear their fans thoughts about upcoming games, or news. Not sure the web lets me do that as effectively.

Not sure which part you are asking about. I looked into adding Tapatalk support but to do so requires installing their code on the CZ servers that gives them full control of the site and its data, including users' private data. This is not something I am comfortable with at all. Even worse is the fact that if someone ever finds an exploit in their server-side code, they'll gain direct access to the affected sites.

The reason Tapatalk got popular was because most sites, including the old CZ site, simply did not have mobile support and in the early days of smartphones, trying to view a desktop-sized site was quite difficult. Even the sites that provided "mobile themes" were dumbing down their site to the lowest common denominator of resolutions in order to support the users with the oldest devices.

Mobile devices, including smartphones, have dramatically changed in the last couple of years. They are becoming powerful computers rather than simply web-enabled phones. The leading smartphone manufacturers are increasing the size of their displays, CPU power and screen resolution. Apple's iPhone got larger with the iPhone 5 and just yesterday news leaked that they were looking at larger screens for future iPhones and iPads.

A year ago, mobile support was an annoying secondary feature that web developers had to deal with. Now web developers are designing sites with mobile devices as their starting point using "mobile first" development. There are sure to be some bumps along the way because the users who were used to seeing dumbed down and large text versions of a site have to transition back more traditional web-based interfaces. Eventually the developers and the users will find a sweet spot though and they will both be better off for it as mobile users will have access to the same set of features and abilities as the desktop/laptop users.

Its been perfect. My minute squabble comes with the notifications of new features and I don't have the ability to close them out like I would from my desktop.

Try clicking on the notification once, then the X should appear. Touch screens do not have mouse over support, so to compensate, they turn hover detection into a two-click process.

This has probably been explained, but how do I get it to not go to the bottom of a thread when I open it?

Interesting, thanks for the info. I guess in tapatalk I am able to search fan forums a little more conveniently (for my taste), but it's not a big deal, and this site looks fine on my phone.

Works great here. Thank you to everyone who works behind the scenes, and continues to make this not only the best Cowboys message board, but the best message board, period.
