    Right. They found someone to run their team well-- Harbaugh is a good fit.

    But at the same time, they had a lot of inconsistency in coaching regimes since 2005 and a lot of the star players were amassed from lean years.

    Harbaugh was able to step in and make the most of an already talented team is all I'm saying. He had a big impact on the effectiveness of the offense and the attitude of the team, but he didn't grow the team.

    There was also a time that Smith was losing his job to Hill and there was a lot of hype about the offense being able to come to life with addition of Crabtree, and so on and so forth.

    I'll clarify that they weren't expected to be title contenders, but from what I remember (and not limited to this message board, I post on quite a few boards around the league) there was buzz about the 9ers putting together a solid playoff team due to the weak NFCW.
