JACKSONVILLE, Florida (Reuters) - Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama said on Friday he expects Republicans to highlight the fact that he is black as part of an effort to make voters afraid of him.

"It is going to be very difficult for Republicans to run on their stewardship of the economy or their outstanding foreign policy," Obama told a fundraiser in Jacksonville, Florida. "We know what kind of campaign they're going to run. They're going to try to make you afraid.

"They're going to try to make you afraid of me. He's young and inexperienced and he's got a funny name. And did I mention he's black?"

The polls will prove to be very misleading.

Because no one wants to say they are not voting for a guy because he is black. However when they actually vote, that is the first time they will be counted. hOwever right now all the liberals are going to voice loud and clear they are voting for him. I would not be shocked if he has like a five point lead going in and after the elections people are like

    "..what just happened?"

    Well, that didn't take long.

I got an idea Barak. Why not wait for them to do it, before you accuse them of it. Unless this is a preemptive strike to call ANY criticism of him racist.

This guy has NO, and I mean ZERO, experience that qualifies him to be President. He is going to try and huckster the American people into voting for him.

    He will fail.

What would qualify someone to be president?

I'm just wondering because looking at the status quo the bar can't be set too damn high.

The liberal media is going to spin anything Barack says to his favor. That's a given.

All I can say is, God help us all in this election. God, please protect this great nation.

That's a link to an article titled "What Liberal Media?" by Eric Alterman. I read it for a class in college and just remembered it when I saw the phrase "the liberal media" so I thought I'd dig it up and post it. I'm not saying that I agree or disagree with it. just thought it'd be interesting to post and get reactions.

Anything right of the Communist Manifesto is too conservative for Eric Alterman.

Interesting all the faux outrage about the "black" comment when just days previous the Texas GOP was handing out those "White House" buttons which there is a thread about.

He's exactly right in the way they're going to portray him. It's already happened numerous times through out the primaries and in the general election. They're going to make him seem scary. They're going to use his full name with emphasis on his middle name to drum up fear in the mouthbreathers. It's already happening people. Don't act surprised when he's just stating the obvious.

    Obama's out of his mind.

The Republicans would NEVER use being Black as a scare tactic.

    Exactly.

And I'm not even saying it's just a Republican thing, but to sit there and be naive enough to say that it's not already happening or is going to happen is just dishonest.

To think race isn't going to play a part in this election is to not be dealing with reality.

We all would like to think that in this day and age it doesn't matter anymore but it does...to say anything else as you said would be dishonest.

There are people out there that wouldn't vote for Obama even if they thought he was the best candidate...because you know why.

And there will be people that will use it against him.

    Sad but that's reality.

there will also be people voting for him just because he is black

it's a 2-way street, that's why I hate political correctness, in the effort to be PC, many people miss the whole picture

My fiancee's parents have voted Democrat their entire lives and have already told us they won't vote for Obama because he's black. That was a bit of a shocking conversation.

My own mother has said that she is afraid of what might happen if a black man is elected President. Like he's going to enslave the white race or something.
