Kind of hard to get swept by a team by a combined score of 54-14 and then get upset about being ranked behind them in a power ranking.

If you are not in the playoffs you are OUT of the rankings, THE END

If you want flawed rankings, sure.

But often times you'll have teams who miss the playoffs that are playing better football down the stretch than teams that make it in.

Then what would be the point of power rankings? Just look at the standings and that'll tell you everything.

And if you are what your record says you are, why doesn't the #1 seed in the conference win the Super Bowl every year?

Maybe it's slightly more complicated than that.

You are talking about two different seasons. All teams are 0-0 when the playoffs start.

Why? Remember the Giants beat the Pats in the 2008 SB after they had a undefeated regular season?

    Dallas is in the playoffs?

Or did you mean, if you are mathematically eliminated you are out of the rankings?

I have to actually explain this?

If you want to hide behind the 'you are what your record says you are' claim and rank teams that way so we can pretend the Cowboys should be ranked ahead of the Eagles right now despite being swept by them to the tune of 54-14, if that is a concrete definitive way to gauge the quality of the teams, then why doesn't the team with the best record win the Super Bowl every year?

And don't give me some lame response like it's a new season. It's the same teams. Same players. Yet overall record doesn't always hold up. In fact, it's a crap shoot.

You are what your record says you are. Except sometimes you're not. Because your record doesn't tell you how healthy you've been, how lucky you've been, the strength of your schedule, how much turnover you had from the last season, how well you're playing currently. There's a ton of different factors that go into it.

So to sit here right now and say okay, this team is 8-7 so they're a better team than this one at 7-8 is really a laughably simplistic way to breakdown the teams. To suggest a professional should use that formula in his power rankings is an embarrassment.

Of course I know why you're saying it.

It's always going to be a crapshoot in the playoffs because it's a ELIMNATION GAME where anything can happen. And my post was more about the eagles being in the rankings for their FAKE WIN on 12/24 and wins over two bad teams 2 weeks before that, Dolphins and Jets.

I was talking about a team that I know won't be in the playoffs in 2 weeks

    THE EAGLES

Peter King doesn't do his rankings that way. I believe he bases it on record and current level of play.
