    Raiders looking to unload players

Posted by Michael David Smith on February 23, 2010 2:13 PM ET

The Oakland Raiders have a whole lot of players they'd like to unload -- just as long as they can find a trading partner.

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that the Raiders have had discussions with multiple teams to see if they can find anyone to take some of their players off their hands. Schefter reports that the Raiders did the same thing last year but found few takers.

This year could be different, though, because there's no salary cap and no salary floor. So the Raiders could, if they're so inclined, trade all the high-priced players they want and not be in any danger of having too low a payroll. And other teams could acquire high-priced players from the Raiders without having to worry about going over the salary cap, although there are some restrictions on trades in an uncapped year.

Schefter reports that the Raiders would even be willing to trade cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, who's widely regarded as the best player on their roster. However, Asomugha's contract (which includes an $8 million roster bonus due on the first day of the league year, a $7.83 million option bonus due on March 19 and language that makes it difficult to franchise him when he becomes a free agent after the 2011 season) makes it very unlikely any team would trade for him.

But Asomugha is available if another team is interested. So are a lot of other Raiders.

Let me get things rollin would Newman for Asomugha work I know ":madden:' but we are talking about probably the worst front office in the league in the Raiders (and that's saying a lot with the Redskins in our own division) Who would go for having Asomugha on this team.

The Raiders might as well tear it apart and rebuild it. They really don't have anything to lose. Jerry might as well call Al and see what he can get on the cheap. You never know!

You ever wonder if Raiders employees just screw with Al for the heck of it? Like when Al gets a different type of TP in his office bathroom and he talks to the janitor about it and gets a reply that it has magicial powers and was a free gift with the seeds he bought?

If last year humbled Ellis, and he can now accept and revel in his backup role, then I'd surely take him back.

Well, only in the sense that the Cowboys would want to get rid of T-New's long term contract. However, I don't see why the Raidus would be interested in the deal since they'd be getting back a lesser player with a longer term contract.

Doesn't make sense for them to do it.

Asomugha can't come here, because he can't run from Austin in practice.;)

Deion would have told the other CB to get out of the way, coaches, too.

He's got Lamonica too, so Stabler might be available.
