NY Jets coach Rex Ryan defends Patriots' Bill Belichick, rips Mike Pettine for PlaybookGate

After Rex's former defensive coordinator told MMQB.com that Tom Brady bragged to then Jets outside linebackers coach Mike Smith at Wes Welker’s 2012 wedding that the Patriots maybe had a couple Jets defensive playbooks, and said that Ryan 'gives out playbooks like candy,' a fired-up Ryan was miffed at Pettine for telling the story.

Did NY Jets head coach Rex Ryan inadvertently pass along his playbook to Bill Belichick? Bill Belichick may have had possession of the Jets’ defensive play book, at least according to Gang Green’s former defensive coordinator, but Rex Ryan apparently doesn’t have a problem with that.

Instead, the Jets head coach is more irked that Mike Pettine, now the Browns head coach, was talking out of school.

After Pettine told MMQB.com that Tom Brady bragged to then Jets outside linebackers coach Mike Smith at Wes Welker’s 2012 wedding that the Patriots maybe had a couple Jets defensive playbooks, and said that Ryan “gives out playbooks like candy,” a fired-up Ryan was miffed at Pettine for telling the story and said that any implication that New England had an advantage over the Jets was insulting to Belichick and Co.

“To discredit somebody, especially a guy like Belichick, who’s a real coach, studies his butt off and things, I think it’s ridiculous,” Ryan said. “There’s no merit to it. Whatsoever.”

Seems like Ryan is getting defensive (unintended) to cover-up for the aloof distribution of his playbooks. I'm sure he'll be gone next year.

Whinny Jets HC trying to cover up the fact that his offense consists of 3 runs and a punt.

I only know one way to take that. Yes, they do have one...AND they use it. Ryan should keep closer track of that stuff. What would stop a player from scanning their playbook to Adobe? Character or something?

Having a team's playbook means next to nothing.
The game plan for a specific game? Now that would be a big deal.
