Do those nicotine patches work? For anyone that's tried them? Been a smoker since 16, trying to impress my gf at the time because she smoked, dumb decision, lol.

I was a smoker for 20+ years. Patches didn't work for me at all. I quit cold turkey once for 8 years but picked it back up again. When I tried to quit again the only thing that worked for me was vaping. I vaped for a while, gradually decreasing the nicotine, until one day I just didn't want it anymore. Wasn't hard at all.

I quit 6 years ago, cold turkey, because I was THISCLOSE to emphysema. Was very hard for me, as I LOVED smoking. But Chantix (doctor prescription required) helped a lot. Toothpicks helped for years after. Exercise helps a great deal. The E-cigs were just coming out, and I never tried them. Never tried patches either. Nicotine gum helped a little but tasted awful. Good luck to you, it is a good decision on your part no matter what the reasons are.

Edit: Oh, and just take it one day at a time. Each day is an achievement. Take pride in each day that you have defeated the urge. And realize that after about three days, the urge is purely psychological at that point.

I quit smoking 12 years ago. I was able to quit by starting to dip Copenhagen. I knew it wasn't a good trade off, but felt dipping was at least a little better and didn't want my kid to ever see me smoke. I was able to quit Copenhagen about 6 years later by vaping. I had to hide that one from my kid too, so it didn't last long but did get me off the dip. Since then I've moved to Nicorette gum and haven't touched tobacco in 6 years now. I don't miss it at all. The gum is super expensive but I'm down to only a couple of pieces a day now. Slow process, but it worked for me. The patches didn't work for me at all.

Now I have to look into it, a few of my friends vape and talk about how expensive the vapes were, I know someone who blew like$ 180 on one, are there cheaper ones? I just claim complete ignorance on this...never learned about them, just went to the corner store and buy a pack of camels...

Oh yeah, buddy. Go online. You can get a whole rig (tank and box) for under 80. Check around, brother.

Your friend probably went to a vape shop and paid top dollar. Shop online :)

I smoked for 30 years. I tried quitting literally dozens of times; smoking secession classes, nicotine gum, patches, pills and ultimately none of it worked. I finally quit 5 years ago cold turkey. I started saving the money I had been spending on smoking and now have enough for a nice vacation this summer or a few away games this coming Cowboys season. I'm thinking Denver and Atlanta.

Thanks, that was what was in the back of my mind(gum patch whatever helps). I've tried Copenhagen, take a dip here or there, I needed less, it seemed atleast, but I'd probably never get that kiss on the 28th, congrats on quitting, it takes a strong person.

Oh hell no, you won't have to spend that much. I just purchased my wife a setup and it cost $50 plus the first bottle of fluid free. I would spend a little more than that if you plan to do it for a while. Hers has a built in tank. I would suggest getting one where you can change out the tank and also where you can adjust the voltage (strength of the hit). Like @Trouty said you can get started for $80-$100 and then it gets very cheap. The fluid lasts a long time compared to smoking. I could spend less that $20 on a bottle that would last 2-3 weeks.

Wow congrats to you my friend, that's awesome! If I had the money I spent on cigs back, I would be much more comfortable financially...
