Now if we can get the Giants to hire Greg Adkins, TE coach of the Bills, we might have the 3rd best coach in the division.

You think Snyder will greet him when he gets off the plane and go "wait, you're not the guy from MNF."

Was concerned they were waiting for Auburn to finish up so they could talk with Gus Malzahn.

    Instead it's only Zorn 2.0

Not impressed. I wonder how Redskin nation really feels about this hire. Calling my Redskin loving bro-in-law tonight to find out. Somehow I doubt the nations capital is all fired up over this.

Right before the Bengals playoff game Boomer Esiason asked Phil Simms what he thought of Gruden. He said if you need a coach that can help develop a young QB he's the guy. Then Dalton went on to pretty much lose the game for them.

    A collective shrug.

    A collective "we'll see"

Then again, every time the nation's capital has been "fired up" over a coaching move it has flopped.

The last "shrug" was Joe Gibbs in 1981.

I agree. From a Skins fan perspective--it's hard to not get all geeked up over something shiny and new. It's interesting that they retained Sean McVay as OC (VERY young--27--but is well-regarded around the league, apparently.) It will be interesting to see how Brown and Campbell take over the personnel side.

I am more concerned with the defensive side of the ball, and special teams. Overall the offense wasn't terrible last year. It wasn't great--but it wasn't terrible either. Defense was terrible; ST were worse. If they retain Jim Haslett, I may blow a gasket.

I am reserving any excitement until I see the product on the field. I've been fooled too many times to assume anything now. I was over-the-moon excited for Shanahan b/c he brought a credibility to the organization and Cerrato was finally canned. One thing, I think is clear though--for good or bad--this has Bruce Allen's fingerprints all over it, and not Dan Snyder's (Shanahan was Snyder's, all the way).

    So, we will see...

Remember, great OC/DC does not necessarily mean great HC.

Norv Turner, Mike Martz, Dick LeBeau are great coordinators but were flops as HC's.

Mike Tomlin wasn't much as a DC (was he even a DC or just secondary coach?) Bill Cowher? Tom Coughlin?

Hell you guys ran Payton out of Dallas and Payton was stripped of play calling duty by Fassell in NY.

Snyder is forcing most of the current assistants onto Gruden's staff to save money.

Welcome to our world, Redskin fans.

That'll be the Cowboys in a year or so.

Settling for a guy when there are much better hires out there. And why? Oh that little obstacle called a nutty control freak owner.

Just goes to show..it's who you know.

Such a Tampa connection up there now...and it's not like it is a "winning" Tampa connection either.

I root against the Redskins like every other Cowboys fan does, but to see these decisions made makes me feel bad for Skins nation.

One thing is for sure...the discipline factor will be slim to none up there. Raheem, McVay, and Jay Gruden leading the charge? The players will be having a great time to say the least.

Wait didn't they just FIRE a man who was tried and tested with skins on the wall? Did the culture change in DC under Shanny? Maybe hiring someone without all that you mentioned was a better way to go this time around. But only time will tell.

The hire itself isn't a bad one IMHO but making him keep a former HC's staff is a terrible move. Good for them.

Gruden worked with these guys either in Tampa or the USF.

McVay though has gotten rave reviews as being an excellent, smart, coach.

The positives again? Good young fresh coaches. Didn't want a retread at all nor a "big name"

Cons? You never know how a coordinator will do as HC. You can get Sean Payton or Norv Turner

More than likely Bruce Allen kept those guys because he already knew he was going to hire Gruden and Gruden has worked with those guys in the past.

The NFL, like many businesses (and almost all), is a relationship business

He has been a year coach at the arena level even winning a championship. It'll be interested to see how much of their offensive scheme they change. Dump the zone blocking scheme, keep the 3-4 too?
