Marcus Spears is staying with the Dallas Cowboys.

It’s not exactly the headline the Cowboys hoped for at the start of business Friday, but their retention of the run-stopping defensive end on Friday gave them solace after they lost out on a furious late bid to land coveted cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha.

Asomugha, the plumb pick of the free-agent market, agreed to a five-year, $60 million deal with Dallas’ NFC East rivals, the Philadelphia...

damn...so we really wanted to get after him.

This makes it worse, the fact Jerry and his Son, were trying so hard.

So he lost out on a name that would have kept his brand in the news for a few days.

Misleading title to that article. ESPN and the NFL network are trying to make offseason drama bigger than the game. I'm getting tired of it.

He wanted more money and led us to believe he was coming here. I can't wait to play the eagles now and watch DEz run over Cromartie and miles blow past nmandi again. These teams think that there cornerbacks are going to dominate when our number one receiver is still Jason Witten. No one can cover him....period

They're accurate. Quoted from an interview posted in the Nnamdi thread (about page 100 maybe?)

Jerry, Rob Ryan and the Cowboys got blindsided by Asomugha and his agent.

    So nmandi screwed us?

How did it really go down? Did we refuse to ante up? or did nmandi agent lie to us?

Jerry doesnt lose a FA he wants.....would be dumb if we lost out because of a few million.

Something fishy.......if nmandi agent played Jerry.....i can see Jerry not ever dealing with him again

Yea, the 'enemy' now has on roster: Asomugha, Cromartie, and Samuel.

If Nmadi did this that is one thing; but if this was orchestrated by his agent the guy just made himself someone that no owner will trust from this point on. A very dumb move.

I can't see how the agent could do it if Asomugha didn't approve.

He had to sign a contract at some point.

I have watery eyes of JOY....so glad we didn't sign him, last thing this team need is to throw all our eggs(money) into one basket when this team has so many holes and drive the team into more salary cap hell in the future years. Been there, done that, where has that gotton us the last 15 years

This organization needs ot put it money into a young athletic offensive line(starting with Free and Smith) and a front seven that can get constant pressure, that will cover up some of the issues on the back end.

It's been said before in this thread, but the Dallas media are seriously bush league.

Maybe you shouldn't be a journalist if you're a full grown man having to resort to misleading titles and gossip rag tactics to get a view.

    Just a thought.

Anyone who thought he wasn't going where the money was is crazy.

The whole reason guys want to become free agents is to cash in on the biggest payday, not to get with their childhood's fav team.

Don't let the espn talk about it only being 3 million more than Samuel or the Newman thing fool you...both players are under contract with their respective teams, and I would think the teams are still on the hook for some guaranteed money whether they released or traded them.

We cut some players who would still be contributing to the team because of money...putting a bigger bid in on Nnamdi than Philly did wouldn't have been good business...we still have holes to fill.

Not to mention a bulk sum tied up with next year's dead monies and what would have been a very large bulk sum as well with Asomugha.
