Washington got Morris in the 6th round...

To be frank, this team needs to draft better in the later rounds. There are players to be found but for some reason we always tend to go cute. The depth on this team is abysmal every year b/c of the lack of quality being drafted on the 2nd/3rd day of the draft. Are any of the scouts being held accountable here? Does anybody even know their names? With Jerry handing out 50 million contracts like hot cakes, the salary cap is screwed, the only way to get out of this mess is to start drafting better, period.

    Romo 2004
    Ratliff 2005
    Austin 2007

That's only 3 and the last one was half a decade ago.

Maybe Church goes on this list, however, he has to start more than 3 games in his career before I'm ready to draw any conclusions.

That is cause other teams try to find starters later in the draft, while Jerry is drafting special teams fodder with 1/2 the picks. Go back and listen to him speak, every time it is we think he can contribute on special teams, who really cares.

Yep ... same old story for the past 16 years.

Jerry Jones proving to the world he's a football maverick.

Special teams is what can keep a roster spot for the player while he hopefully develops at his position.

It'd be great to stumble on to another Ratliff-level superstar in the late rounds who's quality from day 1, but it's not like that's a regular occurrence across the league. Seattle's recent drafts have had plenty of misses high and low. Same with Washington.

That all said, Dallas does seem to focus on utility players on Day 3 - 3rd/4th CB, 3rd/4th WR, 2nd/3rd TE, FB, special teamers. DL seems to be the exception -- Lissemore and Brent.

True, but you draft the best players and put together your ST roster with said players. Unless he is a return man, you dont draft players specifically to play special teams in my opinion.

It's no mystery that finding talent and starters in the later rounds is basically a crapshoot. I don't think that because you just named 2 players out of the hundreds drafted in that round that it has somehow changed.

You can't even compare Seattle's rebuild job to our crap offseasons. Pete Carroll and Co. have out on a clinic for how to build a championship contender.

Better than us, but the Cowboys have been unlucky.

    1.their qb's a loser(Romo)

    2.jerry seems to be cursed

Getting rid of Romo would be a great remedy for this team.

Jerry has found a lot of good talent:
    Murray
    Dez
    Lee
    Carter
    Claiborne
    Spencer
    Smith
    Carr
    Harris

I would pay money to see what the Cowboys would look like with a differen't quarterback.IMO, Tony Romo is the true progress stopper on this team.

Pat Watkins, Michael Hamlin, DeAngelo Smith, AOA. The first three aren't even in the NFL anymore and AOA is barely hanging on

Definitely helps to be able to find talent in all rounds of a drat.

    But............

Your coaching staff also needs to put a system in place that works well for the drafted players and that same staff needs to be able to develop those drafted players at an NFL level.

As easy as it is to draft a bust. It's even easier to not develop/enhance a drafted talent in this league.

This is the NFL, not college. Everyone is big and fast, athletically gifted. The hardest working, best prepared and trained players are the ones that seperate themselves.

In college your natural talent and athleticism helps you get away a lot more lacking in the above area's mentioned.
