After signing the quarterback to a massive extension Friday, which includes $55 million guaranteed, ownership said they thought it was money well-spent.

Absolutely, we feel that we can win a championship with Tony,” Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones told Jarrett Bell of USA Today. “We wouldn’t be doing all of this if we didn’t think we could win with him.”

“It’s not all on Tony’s shoulders,” Jones said. “He has to do his part, but the team around him as to play better, and we also have to coach better. . . .

“We’ve always looked at him as a great quarterback. He wants to win a championship as much as anybody. But it’s on all of us.”

Does the front office have to be better?

Do we need to manage our cap better?

I don't really see a big deal in that. He's saying our players have to play better and our coaches have to coach better. It's the standard response.

Really Stephen? Might want to stop running the team like it is all on his shoulders, then.

Using stop gap solutions on the oline and wondering why Romo has to run for his life.

Failure to address the running game making Romo throw the ball more than he should.

Failure to find a defensive coach and defensive players that can actually force turnovers putting more pressure on the offense in general.

Putting players like Otree on the field instead of Harris when you know the latter is a better football player.

Running drafts that turn out to be absolutely terrible. (09 draft anyone?)

Funny that you say it isn't all on Tony Romo's shoulders when every decision being made and almost every play call on the field does exactly that. Pretty sad when the receivers are so out of touch that Romo has to actually hold their hands to get them in position.

Get him the help that he needs and I'll believe you.

Still waiting on an accurate accounting measure of how the cap has been mismanaged. How far under the cap are we now that this deal is done? Do you even know?

“It’s not all on Tony’s shoulders”

If it wasn't....it sure is now.

I can't imagine how a person can have success w/ the amount of pressure that is gonna be on his shoulders.

    Think about it......

If he faulted then....you honestly expect better results now that he is older and less likely to escape dogschlitz line play?

For years Jerry has supplied Romo w/ mediocre talent around him..

And it's just gonna get better over night?????? PLEASE:( :( :( :(

Name another QB that has higher expectations w/ less to work with...I can't.

This team is 100% on Romo's shoulders and has been for years, utter nonsense from Jones. He then comes back to reality with the recognition that coaching must improve. Garrett can not continue to cost the team games. Your head coach should be an asset, not a liability.

Next year will be another cap mess with over 148 million on the books compared to the NFL average of 107 million. These are the last figures I read. It is not fixed. The problem was put off to the next few years and it is only going to get worse. There is nothing fine about the salary cap in Dallas. There is a big bill that has to be paid. Putting it off and letting it get larger is going to result in a repeat of the Campo years.

Yea, what a jerk for allowing the NFL to slap a random, unexplainable cap penalty on the team.
