Oh yeah, why'd they draft Bennett?

Cause Witten was a 6 year vet?

12 year vet, 15 year vet, doesn't matter.

TE isn't a position where you groom a replacement for 3-4 years down the road.

I think it is a fact and not a cheap shot, if anything its sarcasm or a bad joke. Three 2nd round picks for a 2nd string TE plus the other 3rd string picks etc. Thats a lot of draft firepower to spend over 10 years when you have a pro-bowl starter and really don't use a 2 TE offense.

Dallas used Bennett in 2 TE set since then we drafted Escobar 5 years later after Bennett left via FA, Acting as if Dallas is taking TE after TE is stupid and not factual.

BP wanted Fasono and later we traded him. Bennett was used in 2 TE sets, as for Hanna he was a 6th rd pick not exactly breaking the bank on that selection and as for Escobar he was not a reach but considered a top prospect

The Dallas Cowboys selected Gavin Escobar with the 47th overall pick in the NFL draft on Friday night. Immediately after the pick Escobar and the Cowboys had one fan: NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock.

“Maybe the best ball skills of any of (the tight ends),” Mayock said after the pick was announced. “He will be a great short and intermediate catcher for the Dallas Cowboys. I really love this player.”

They don't need to take one every year in order for it to be stupid. They don't utilize the player so they aren't justifying the cost involved.

The first time they took one should have gotten the job done.

The second time they took one (after trading the first TE) would have gotten it done if they had a clue on how to use him.

This time will not get the job done either if they don't figure it out.

On so many levels their obsession with the #2 TE is stupid regardless of how mild you want to say their addiction is.

First and foremost you don't need to spend a second rounder to get a TE because these hybrids types are coming out of the woodwork.

Secondly they haven't even come close to getting value for the pick because they don't run the 2TE properly.

Lastly, the team is much better off with 3WR.

It is what it is. Wasteful.

In your opinion he is wasteful I think he will develop into a quality TE for this team. Draft is not a just about this season.

When you have as many holes as we did last offseason, then you need your 2nd rounders to be contributing from day 1.

    Anthony Fasano, Round 2, 2006
    Martellus Bennett, Round 2, 2008
    John Phillips, Round 6, 2009
    James Hanna, Round 6, 2012
    Gavin Escobar, Round 2, 2013

So no, TE is not any bit of an exaggeration.

I would like a safety in the 2nd.

Cowboys haven't had a good one since 1998

I know this is a tongue in cheek post but if we did really draft a TE in the 2nd, I don't think my TV would survive.

Maybe not a TE but it wouldn't surprise me if we add a RB in the next two rounds now with a bolstered OL, Murray coming into his final year, and a new Off. Coordinators. I'd prefer Sankey or Hill but in the 3rd.

I can verify that this is a true emotion. I felt the same way when I read the title.

I'm all for it if he can also play defensive end or tackle.

The first time didn't get the job done because Fasano wasn't good enough. Actually, he sucks.

They did use Bennett. I never understood why people expected him to catch 60 passes a year. He barely gets that as a starter. It doesn't help when he has an attitude problem, but they did use him.

It is too early to tell on Escobar on whether it will work or not. Plus unlike when Fasano and Bennett were brought in and Witten was young and in is prime Witten is now far older, so it isn't a bad idea to have a quality back up.
