Terp DE quick, but was it quick enuff?? According to ESPN, Maryland junior DE Shawne Merriman ran well at yesterday's Terrapin pro day, but may not have been fast enough to seriously elevate is 2005 draft grade. Merriman, who is being looked at as both a potential DE and OLB by NFL teams, weighed ran two 40s in under 4.70 seconds. The 6-2, 272-pound Merriman, though, had been hoping to get under the 4.50 second, which could have put him in line to be one of the first defensive players off the board this coming April. Merriman, though, did post a very impressive 40 inch plus vertical leap, while he clocked 4.24 in the short shuttle; by way of contrast, Georgia DE David Pollack, who had a 40 time closer to 4.80, ran the short shuttle in 3.90 seconds.
