Right, and you have to understand that Dez wouldn't have gotten much of any fan support at all.

He probably won out among many players, but I think he probably wouldn't have done great with coaches.

You also have to consider our competition at the end of the season.

    Okay with that said...

He faced 13 defenses. Lets say 70% of them voted for Dez. That does not in any way skew the perception of the other teams around the league who only watched highlights.

    Same goes for Romo...right ?

It's not the always numbers. It's the wins. The impact, the leadership.
Aikman was a leader, he was not the best as far as overall numbers, but he led his team along with Irvin (Emmitt was just behind them to me).

They won games. They motivated. They at times dominated.

What was it that Parcells says about your record ?

I realize you think there's nothing unusual here, but the point already made was that he was obviously no higher than the seventh-highest vote-getter in the conference, and that such a snub is unprecedented at this position.

One has to wonder if you used this same philosophy when Art Monk was not being promoted to the Hall of Fame?

That obviously didn't factor in any of the previous 53 years, when that kind of season was always Pro Bowl worthy.

The guy who broke records in his era ?

First player to record a touchdown reception in 15 consecutive seasons.

Consecutive seasons with at least 35 receptions (15)

First player to record over 102+ receptions (106 in 1984) in a season before NFL rules changes prior to the 1990 season that ushered in the "pass happy era". Still only three players in the next nine years collected 100 passes or more and only one (Sterling Sharpe in 1992) surpassed his total.

First player to record over 100+ receptions in the Super Bowl era.

First player to record back to back seasons on 1,200 yards and 90 receptions. 1984, 1985

First NFL player to reach 820 receptions in a career.

First NFL player to surpass 900 career receptions, finishing career with 940 (all-time record at the time).

First player to record at least one reception in 180 consecutive games.

If Dez was breaking records in the first half of this season...he would have made the useless Pro Bowl. Monk went to 3 SB's and was one of the key ingredients.

When did the fans start voting ?

Are you even serious with that response ?

    15 seasons.

I think that sums it up.

    Potential? :laugh2:

    You think he has potential?

He's one of the top 5-8 WRs in the entire league right now. The only WR I'd definitively rather have is Megatron going into the 2013 season.

It does indeed. In that era. 15 seasons and still productive. The season with 1 TD during that span, he was injured and only played 9 games before they shut him down.

But again, it is not always about the numbers.

    I didn't realize that.

We'll mark him down for 2 touchdowns that year then.

Uh, Tonto....he had 90 plus catches for 1300 plus yards and a dozen touchdowns. In 15 and a half games.

At least try on your end. I'm not carrying this whole conversation.

    Ridiculous isn't it?

If he had a WR on his team putting up those numbers with R2D2 throwing him the football he'd have a new tattoo already.

If you had asked Aikman to throw it 50 plus times a game, he would've shattered records.

    That's me. I just can't criticize a Cowboy.

Hey, I thought Dez was slighted but once I read this thread and Percy broke it down for me, clearly he was majorly snubbed. I don't know why anyone would have a problem with that. Despite all the excuses, Dez is the only guy to put up those numbers and get past over by so many with lesser stats.

Do I care? No. It doesn't define him as a player. But was he snubbed like no other at his position in the history of the voting? Apparently so.

haha. I am not against Dez being in. Perhaps you will get that soon.

Along with the others that posted after you.

The main point is...it doesn't matter. Shut the naysayers up.

Monk at retirement was one of if not THE best WR to ever play the game. Same can not be said for other WRs that some of you guys even complain about not getting in. To me Gary Clark should be in the Redskins hall of fame, not the NFL hall of fame.

    It's that simple.

The Pro Bowl vote is garbage, the stats are pointless, and it all comes down to who likes who...same as now in some aspects with the HOF.

Scipio, I never said "super homer"...not at all. Perhaps both of you need to step back have a Dr. Pepper...and re-read what I wrote.

Clove, He would have lasted 4 years back then. Today...I agree he probably would have.

Again, that 1300 and 12...not telling the whole story. Stats are not the end all. Same as a QB rating.

Watch the games not the stats.
