There have been rumblings out there for a few months that former GOP Congressman Bob Barr may run for President as a third party (Libertarian?) candidate.

I'm hearing now that this may be more than just rumor.

Barr left the GOP awhile ago and officially turned Libertarian. He follows much of the anti-war stance of Ron Paul. Opposes the PATRIOT Act. And otherwise is a pretty "down the line" conservative on most social and economic policies (as is Paul).

For him to have any shot, he'd need to quickly organize and manage to win the Libertarian nomination (their convention is in late May, I believe). If he succeeded in doing that, and managed to get the endorsement of Paul and tap into his minions, he could make some noise in November.

Not a ton, mind you, but he could cause some trouble, that's for sure.

Anyway, thought I'd throw that out there for those who are looking for an alternative to the two big parties.

Why doesn't Paul just run as a Libertarian?

So would Nadar and this guy basically cancel each other out?

Sounds about right. It's not like there haven't been Libertarian candidates before. They don't register enough votes to have much of an effect. Basically like Nader last election.

It would probably cost him his Congressional seat, and he doesn't want to lose that.

Interesting..... I'll have to keep a close eye on this. This could be where my vote ends up (buh-bye Neo-Cons).

I was hoping you'd just misspelled Barker in the thread title.
