TIM RUSSERT DIES FROM APPARENT HEART ATTACK
    By CHARLES HURT

    Tim Russert
    June 13, 2008 --
Tim Russert, NBC journalist and political heavyweight host of "Meet the Press," has died after collapsing at NBC's Washington news bureau, a source said. He was 58 years old.
Russert, who rose from the inside world of politics where he was former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo's press secretary and one-time chief of staff to the late Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan, was able to successfully cross over to political journalism and rise to become one of its leading lights.
In his role as host of the seminal Sunday morning political program "Meet the Press" - which he took over in 1991 - he became renowned for his hard-nosed interviews where he frequently cornered some of Washington's cagiest political figures with tough questions.

Kind of shocks you to see someone of that age die from a heart attack. I know I know he was no spring chicken, but still.

    RIP.

My folks are in their 60's and act like they are much younger and take care of themselves. 58 is not that old these days when life expectancy continues to rise.

Myself I'm on the George Burns health plan. Smoking cigars, drinking and hanging out with young women. The man lived to be over 100. :laugh2:

A lot of these TV "journalists" or commentators are really entertainers/instigators who are prone to hyberbole and can be annoying.

Russert was an excellent interviewer who had a disarming, pleasant personality and demeanor. A good newsman.

This is a huge loss for that industry and specifically for NBC, not to mention his family.

Indeed. And he absolutely adored politics. You could just see it in his face and he was REALLY looking forward to this election season.

    I'm stunned.

    Loved his political coverage.

    Huge loss for NBC.

And his family...to say the least.

NBC as Brokaw said will not be the same.

    58 is way too young...

    RIP Tim.

Dang! I really liked Tim Russert. Was one of the good guys. Even though everyone knew what his political leanings were, he always conducted fair and balanced interviews and gave both sides. This guy will be missed.

    RIP TIM.

He was one of my favorite reporters to listen to when he got on a rant. His questions pulled no punches and he made no apologies for it.

Russert is one of the only guys I actually watched. He didnt run a shout show, he just ran a very informative show.

I dont think NBC can replace someone as valuable as him.
