Pay better attention dude.
Come up with better stuff.
You guys both contribute some good things to the message board.
I would encourage you not to let yourselves get sucked into this level of banter.
No team in football has the 8 DL we had in those days.
And NFL players are bigger than ever.
Smallish guys are going to have shortened careers. Heck even some of those guys did.
As a note:
Melton is making a Pro Bowl and stands ot make as much if not more money than Anthony Spencer.
He is a great fit for any defense because he is a really gifted player.
We aren't landing him.
If we could make him work under the cap this year, he wouldn't fit next year. He is simply too expensive.
I would prefer him over Spencer for Kiffin's defense.
I think if Crawford plays at the same 275 pounds that he played at when he was at Boise State, he would make a good strong side DE in a 4-3. His heavy hands and ability to set the edge would be a good asset.
If he remains at 290, like he was this year, or gets larger, he really would only be a fit inside. I think I prefer him at 275 out at end, where his strength and quickness would be more of using his strengths as a player.
There are many variations but generally modern 4-3 use big SSDEs who are much like Crawford. Huge sack totals are merely a plus but they have to be able to control the LOS and stop the run.
I could see Crawford playing SSDE/QDT by downs.
Definitely a better natural athlete.
May well cost more too.
I love all the local high school kids so it'd be nice; but probably not very realistic.
