My favorite is country music, and I even live in New York. It is calm and has a meaning to every song.

What about mama, or trains, or trucks, or prison?

Hard to choose a favorite, but the music I have listened to most is country. There are many good country songs which bring back a lot of memories.

Hip hop and R&B as a kid. I grew up in a great era for this type of music. late 80's early 90's. As I have gotten older I have learned to appreciate other genres. My mp3 is filled with hip hop, r&b, rock, classic rock, alternative, jazz, a little country

During the most influential years of my life I lived by myself in a scale house at a stockyards. It was a 12' x 12' cinder block and concrete building with 1 window, a cot, a 100 watt lightbulb, and an AM radio. No heat, no air, and no bathroom.

The only station that came in good enough to listen to was a country music station. I spent my 3 years in that concrete room reading Louis L'Amour novels, listening to the music of Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, and a host of other country stars. Every night at the same time they played Paul Harvey's radio messages of that day. I would read until it was time for his show and then I would go to bed.

A lot of the values that I hold to in my life were shaped from the songs I listened to then and the wisdom of Paul Harvey. I still love country music. I pity people who can't enjoy it. The songs can move you in ways no other music can. I've listened to just about every genre there is from Jazz, classical, rap, to heavy metal and I always come back to country music and it just seems more real to me.

It's rock n' roll for me. I especially like classical rock. Nothing better than music from bands like the Beatles, Stones, Dylan, Bowie, Chuck Berry, Eagles etc.

Recently, I have been listening to a lot of blues music also on the internet.

I never got into country music except for Johnny Cash.

I went through Rock, Prog-Rock and Jazz, and have ended up with Afro Pop and Afro Cuban as my favs currently. Along with some Electronic/Dance stuff. Basically, I tend to like complex, hard driving, butt-shaking rhythm.

I do kinda like the Texas Country music I've heard, as those guys tend to be more open and natural than the pop country that comes out of Nashville. The Aussie folk/country scene seems pretty cool as well. One thing about Country, it still values songs that tell stories. You can still make a living as a songwriter in Nashville, something that most other styles don't support.

Couldn't pick a favorite, I listen to just about everything. Not a fan of the country genre, but there are certainly country songs I like. Even genres I dislike, I can usually find songs and artists I enjoy.

That's funny, I've always had pity for those that would torture themselves by listening to country. Same thing for rap. It's just painful to the ears.

Rock is the best (not soft rock, and not screamo crap either).

Really though, my favorite now seems to be musical scores from movies. I'm not sure what genre you'd call that. Instrumental, Orchestral, I don't really know.

But I rarely listen to music anyway, so it's a moot point for me.

My father is an enormous Louis L'Amour fan. He has what must be a hundred of his books in his computer room. (they line several bookshelves) I have yet to read one, but if he was that big of a fan of L'Amour, I'm sure they are really good.
