That is completely unfair to Dirk in every possible way. He is not, nor will he ever be, as popular in Dallas as Romo. Romo being the QB of Americas Team simply is going to trump anyone in a Mavs jersey.

Texas has one very good football team (Cowboys) and a mediocre one (Texans). Plus, the Cowboys have been around forever and the Texans are fairly new so there are a lot more Cowboys fans.

Texas also has 2 pretty good basketball teams, Spurs and Mavs and one decent team, the Rockets and I'm sure there are a ton of each and the two other texas teams do not like Dirk so much.

Not really fair to Dirk at all.

They're both really popular in Dallas and both are really likeable guys who are very good at their respective sports. However, football is king in Texas, so it would obviously be Romo if you put numbers to it.

I think the original OP is being a total smart ___ because neither one has won a championship.

Funny how Dirk always gets killed, yet Terry gets a pass.

    Tony Romo.

Dirk is still very popular and a few years ago, may have been at the top with the whole 'Nowitness' craze but the most popular athlete in this city is Tony Romo at the moment.

I have a feeling you could say Ware or Dirk and Ware would win that contest just as well.

    Not true.

If the Mavericks would have won a Championship in 2005, Dirk would have been the most popular athlete in Dallas, and probably was during that Championship run.

Among die hards, casual fans and people in the city that don't watch sports, I would say Dirk is more popular, and when I say popular, I mean more known.

I have no idea who is more liked.
