Wow too much credit there. McCoy makes that offense.
Who would have ever thought one year later that Riley Cooper would still be an Eagle and DeSean Jackson cut?
Can you imagine the ridicule GM Jerry would have received for making a decision like this? The Eagles have a 'real' GM, right?
I thought it was interesting the Eagles already knew about the supposed gang ties and still extended Jackson. That right there surpasses in stupidity extending Ratliff.
McCoy doesn't make teams play 7 in the box because they have to account for the home run hitter at all times.
He's their best offensive player, no question, but Jackson's speed is the facilitator that makes that offense hum.
Sal Paolantonio reports this NJ.com article expediated the release of Jackson but was not the reason for it. The Eagles supposedly did have trade offers but didn't feel right unloading these issues on another team.
Great title for a thread.
He's lucky he didn't hang out in a mall with a friend saggin his pants or hit his mom with his hat or he might not have made it this far under the radar.
Or that gang ties are more common than fans want to believe (Hernandez was a blood). Just bc the player isn't commiting murders doesn't mean he isn't still a member.
here is amazing stat: 60 catches when for first downs for Jackson. That guy moves the chains.
I don't buy it. At all. If they got something they could deal with and that was not embarrassing on a PR front, they would have done it.
I don't buy that either.
Hey NFL friends, we do not want to saddle you all with our problems, so we just release the player.
Please be careful.
Jeffrey, Chip and Howie
Who is stupid enough to believe this garbage?
Likewise. Not buying that they were too nice.
If anything, I think they decided to just cut him after news got out and they knew their chance was gone.
A real Head Coach in Chip Kelly reserves and deserves the credit to make his Offense hum. He's a very smart football guy, Eagles are better off.
Chip's been there one year. DeSean's been impacting that Eagles offense since he got there.
Didn't feel right unloading their problem? That's pure spin.
Sal Paolantonio has been like their operative in the mass media for years. I don't believe a damn word he says.
Jerry: Wait....don't release him. How about a 2nd?
I do. If the Eagles knew about these gang related issues and other issues (there are rumors there is an insurance fraud situation with Jackson and his house being robbed a few months ago), that's some heavy crap to keep quiet and then unload on another team. That certainly wouldn't earn you any goodwill amongst GMs around the league that you would like to make future deals with.
So I look around the league and I think "what team has a coach who can deal with those issues?"
And I see Seattle. Pete Carroll coached for years at USC - that campus is smack in the middle of LA's gangland. He likely dealt with tons of players who had gang ties.
Don't worry, Chip has Mark and Nick all on this.
